A Spain visit visa from Pakistan is handled by the Consular Office of the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad, but you never hand your file to the embassy yourself. Ordinary applicants book and submit at the Spain Visa Application Centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. These centres are run by Intiana, the embassy's outsourced partner. This page walks through how Spain decides whether it is the right country for your file, how the centres work, the extra papers the Spanish embassy lists for Pakistani residents, the fee in euros and rupees, how you track the file, and what to do if Spain says no.

VisitVisaInfo explains official rules published by the Spanish government, the European Commission and Spain's designated visa centre. We are not the embassy, the visa centre or a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice. Spanish pages change without notice, so compare every point with the linked source on the day you apply.

Is Spain the right embassy for your trip?

Spain will only take your file if Spain is where the trip is centred. The Spain visa centre's FAQ sets out the order it applies: your main destination, then the country linked to the main purpose of the journey, then the country where you will spend the most time, and finally the Schengen State you enter first. A week in Barcelona and Madrid with two nights in Lisbon is a Spanish file. A trip built around a conference in Munich is not, even if you fly into Madrid.

The Embassy of Spain adds a second condition: the Islamabad Consular Office only accepts applicants who live in its consular district, and it lists proof of residence as a required document. For Pakistani nationals, the checklist on the centre's site asks for a copy of your CNIC. Foreign nationals living in Pakistan need proof of legal residence, such as a residence or work permit.

How the Spain visa centres work

  1. Pick the right category. The centre publishes separate pages for tourism, business, conferences, medical treatment, short study and other purposes. Its FAQ is clear that staff are not allowed to recommend a visa type, so decide this before you book.
  2. Book online. Appointments are made through the centre's booking portal, linked from thespainvisa.com. Print your appointment letter.
  3. Fill in the form in English or Spanish. The centre accepts application forms only in those two languages. Glue the photograph to the form.
  4. Attend in person. The centre says personal attendance is mandatory and that applications sent by post are returned unprocessed. Fingerprints and a facial image are taken here.
  5. Hand over copies. The FAQ recommends photocopies because documents are not returned. Bring originals only where the checklist asks for them.
  6. Pay in cash. The visa fee and the centre's service charge are both paid in cash.

According to the centre's tourist-visa page, files accepted at a main centre go to the Embassy of Spain on the next working day. Files taken at a satellite centre can spend 48–72 hours in transit to Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi first. If your travel date is close, the centre asks you to sign a declaration form acknowledging the short processing time.

If a document is missing, the centre will ask whether you still want to go ahead. It will accept the file if you agree, but it warns that incomplete applications cause delays.

What Spain asks Pakistani residents to show

The Embassy of Spain's Schengen page sets the core rules, and the Embassy of Spain checklist posted on the visa centre's site adds the Pakistan-specific papers. The points below are where Spanish files most often go wrong.

Passport. It must be valid for 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area and have two blank pages. The embassy will not accept passports issued more than 10 years ago. Bring the original plus a copy of the data page and your previous visas.

Photographs. The checklist asks for two recent colour photos on a white background. The centre says photos must be no more than 6 months old and not reused from your passport.

Medical insurance. Cover must be at least €30,000, include repatriation for medical reasons or death, and apply across the whole Schengen area for your whole stay. For a multiple-entry visa, the embassy asks for cover for the first planned trip and a commitment to buy insurance for later trips. Our Schengen travel insurance guide explains the policy wording.

Family and money. The checklist asks for:

  • a Family Registration Certificate issued in English by NADRA
  • bank statements showing activity over the last six months, signed and stamped by the bank
  • your National Tax Number certificate and FBR acknowledgements of tax returns for the last two fiscal years

If you cannot produce one of these, you can show other documented income or assets instead.

Your situation.

  • Employees: pay slips for the last three months, the employment contract, and a leave letter from the employer stating the dates, position and salary.
  • Business owners: the company registration certificate.
  • Government employees: a No Objection Certificate.
  • Retired applicants: pension statements for six months.
  • Spouses visiting a husband or wife in Spain: the Nikah Nama and/or the Marriage Registration Certificate issued in English by the Union Council.

Travel plan. Show a return flight reservation and accommodation for every night. If a host in Spain is covering your stay, check the centre's checklist for the sponsorship proof Spain expects.

The embassy only accepts applications that include the form, photo, passport and fee payment. Everything else can in principle be requested later, but a thin file invites delay or refusal. For the full EU baseline, see our Schengen visa documents checklist for Pakistan.

Fees: euros, rupees and the centre charge

The European Commission sets the Schengen fee at €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to under 12. The visa centre posted the same increase from 11 June 2024: €90 above 12 years, €45 from 6 to 11, and free under 6. The embassy's own Schengen page still shows the older €80/€40 rates, so go by the Commission and the centre.

In September 2026 the centre's tourist-visa page listed the fee in rupees as PKR 29,578 for adults and PKR 14,789 for children aged 6–12. It listed its service charge as PKR 5,554, with children under 6 exempt. Both are paid in cash and change with the exchange rate, so check the page before you go. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

Optional extras such as the premium lounge, courier return and SMS alerts are extra. The centre says they do not get you an earlier appointment or a faster decision from the consulate.

How long Spain takes, and how to track your file

The embassy states a legal decision period of 15 calendar days, counted from the day after you submit. It can be extended to 45 calendar days if you are called for an interview or asked for more documents. You can apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel. Seafarers can apply up to 9 months ahead.

When you submit, you get a receipt with a code. You can use it on the Spanish Foreign Ministry's tracking site, sutramiteconsular.maec.es, and the centre also offers its own online tracking. Collect your passport with the original receipt. Someone else can collect it with your authorisation letter, a copy of your photo ID and the receipt. For planning advice, read our guide on booking a Schengen appointment in Pakistan.

If Spain refuses your visa

The embassy says refusals are always given in writing, with the grounds. You can ask the Islamabad Consular Office to reconsider within 1 month of receiving the refusal. You can also bring a judicial appeal before the High Court of Justice of Madrid within 2 months. Read the grounds carefully before you reapply.

Avoiding fraud

Intiana says it has no official WhatsApp or mobile number for contacting applicants. It also says that neither it nor the embassy works with outside agents, and that its staff never ask for cash to secure an appointment. The embassy runs a separate email address for Schengen visa queries, published on its contact page.
