- Schengen Short-Stay Visa Type C
This is the Spain hub. Pick your passport below for a finished guide. Rules differ by nationality.
Spain is a Schengen State. Non-exempt nationals need a Uniform Schengen Visa (Type C) for short tourist visits. Visa-exempt nationals may stay up to 90 days in 180 without a C-visa (ETIAS authorisation may be required when the system applies to their nationality).
Spain draws Pakistani visitors for Madrid and Barcelona city breaks, family visits and business trips, and each of those journeys needs a Schengen short-stay visa, known as Type C, issued before you fly. The Consular Office of the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad makes the decision, but you never hand your file to the embassy yourself.
Ordinary applicants book online and then attend in person at a Spain Visa Application Centre run by Intiana, the embassy's outsourced partner, in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi. Postal applications come back unprocessed. Before booking, make sure Spain is really your country: the centre looks first at your main destination, then at the main purpose of the journey, then at where you will spend the most time, and only after that at your first point of entry. You also have to live in the embassy's consular district, which Pakistani nationals show with a copy of their CNIC.
Preparation is mostly paperwork from Pakistani institutions. Order an English-language Family Registration Certificate from NADRA early. Ask your bank for statements that are signed and stamped, and gather your National Tax Number certificate along with your FBR return acknowledgements. Employees add pay slips, a contract and a leave letter; business owners bring company registration; government staff need a No Objection Certificate. Then add travel medical insurance valid across the Schengen area, a return flight reservation and accommodation for every night. Fill in the form in English or Spanish, and bring photocopies, because the centre does not return what you hand over.
Most refusals and delays come from avoidable slips. Spain will not accept a passport issued too long ago, so check the issue date against the embassy rule before you book. Centre staff are not allowed to pick your visa category for you, so decide between tourism, business or family before you start. Paid extras such as the premium lounge do not buy a faster decision. Intiana says it has no official WhatsApp number and never asks for cash to secure an appointment, so treat anyone offering one as a scam.
Once you submit, your receipt carries a code for the Spanish Foreign Ministry's tracking site. If Spain refuses, the grounds arrive in writing, and you can ask the Consular Office to reconsider or take the case to the High Court of Justice of Madrid.
Guides on this site: our full Spain visit visa guide for Pakistani passport holders at /spain/pakistan walks through the centre process, fees, tracking and appeal deadlines, and the Schengen visa documents checklist for Pakistan at /guides/schengen-visa-documents-checklist-pakistan covers the paperwork every Schengen country shares.
Where do Pakistanis apply for a Spain visa? At an Intiana-run Spain Visa Application Centre in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi. The embassy's Consular Office in Islamabad decides.
Can I apply to Spain if my trip includes other Schengen countries? Yes, when Spain is your main destination. The centre then looks at main purpose, longest stay and first entry, in that order.
Does Spain ask Pakistani applicants for a NADRA Family Registration Certificate? Yes. The embassy checklist asks for an English-language FRC from NADRA, alongside bank statements, an NTN certificate and FBR return acknowledgements.
Can I track or challenge a Spanish visa decision? Track it with the code on your receipt on the Spanish Foreign Ministry site. A refusal comes in writing with reasons, and you can request reconsideration or appeal in Madrid.
