Malta has no embassy in Pakistan. Malta's official list of representation agreements says Italy handles Malta short-stay visas in both Islamabad and Karachi. So a Malta Schengen visa is decided by the Italian Embassy or the Italian Consulate General, depending on where you live, and Italy uses Intiana (formerly BLS) centres to collect applications. The visa itself is a normal type C sticker for up to 90 days in any 180, costing €90 for adults or €45 for children aged 6 to 12. It is for visits only. Work or stays longer than 90 days need a separate Malta D-visa.

Malta is a small island state in the middle of the Mediterranean, and since it is part of the Schengen area, Pakistani passport holders need a Schengen visa for a holiday in Valletta, a visit to relatives or a short business meeting. A type C visa covers up to 90 days in any 180-day period. English is one of Malta's official languages, so forms, bookings and conversations on arrival tend to be easier than in many other European countries.

Malta has no embassy or consulate in Pakistan. Identità, Malta's identity and visa agency, publishes a list of representation agreements (last updated in September 2025) that names Italy as Malta's representative in both Islamabad and Karachi. In practice, the Italian Embassy in Islamabad or the Italian Consulate General in Karachi examines the application and issues the visa on Malta's behalf. Which one handles your file depends on where in Pakistan you live.

Italy outsources the collection of applications to Intiana, formerly known as BLS. The embassy lists centres in Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad. The Karachi consulate covers centres in Karachi and Quetta, and it says the Intiana centre is the only way to submit, with no agent channel. VFS Global also has a 'Malta short stay' page for Pakistan, but it shows no centre addresses or document list. Before you pay anyone, email Malta's foreign ministry at visa.foreign@gov.mt, or check with the Italian mission, to confirm which counter accepts Malta files.

Expect the standard Schengen fee set by the European Commission: €90 per adult, €45 per child aged 6 to 12, and nothing for children under 6. The outsourcing centre adds its own service charge; check the amount when you book. Identità says the representing mission sets the checklist and answers questions about your application's progress, so treat Italy's instructions as final. Lodge between six months and 15 days before you fly. Decisions normally take 15 days, but can take up to 45.

The Karachi consulate warns that an incomplete file will simply be turned away at the counter. This is not a refusal, but it does cost you the appointment, so check every page before you go. Remember that a Schengen visitor visa does not let you work in Malta. Longer stays and jobs need a Malta D-visa, which Identità handles through a separate VFS service that it says can take up to eight weeks. Because Italy handles these files, the European Commission publishes no Malta refusal figure for Pakistan.

  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • One recent ICAO-standard colour photo
  • Travel medical insurance covering emergency care, hospitalisation and repatriation across the Schengen area (minimum cover €30,000)
  • Proof of the purpose of the trip (hotel bookings and itinerary, invitation letter, or business letter)
  • Proof of accommodation for the whole stay
  • Proof of financial means, such as recent personal bank statements

Malta is represented in Pakistan by Italy (Islamabad and Karachi) under Malta's official representation list. Identità says the representing mission sets the document checklist and handles status queries for Schengen type C visas. Ask the Italian mission or its Intiana/BLS centre for the Malta checklist before you book.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistani citizens need a visa for Malta?

Yes. Malta is a Schengen member, so Pakistani passport holders need a short-stay type C Schengen visa for tourism, family visits or business, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Is there a Malta embassy in Pakistan?

No. Malta's official representation list, published by Identità, names Italy as Malta's representative in Islamabad and Karachi. The Italian mission decides Malta visas for residents of Pakistan.

Where do I hand in a Malta visa application in Pakistan?

Italy collects visa applications through Intiana (formerly BLS) centres in Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad for the embassy's area, and in Karachi and Quetta for the consulate's area. VFS also lists a Malta short-stay page for Pakistan, so confirm with the Italian mission or visa.foreign@gov.mt before booking.

What is the Malta visa fee for Pakistanis?

€90 for adults, €45 for children aged 6–12, and free for children under 6, according to the European Commission. The outsourcing centre adds its own service charge. Check the amount when you book.

Can I apply for a Malta visa directly with Identità in Malta?

No. Identità says it does not process Schengen type C visas. Only Maltese missions or the countries that represent Malta process them. Questions about your application's progress also go to the mission where you applied.

Can I work in Malta on a Schengen visit visa?

No. A type C visa is for visits only. Jobs and stays longer than 90 days need a Malta D-visa, which Identità handles through a separate VFS appointment service that it says can take up to eight weeks.

How long does a Malta Schengen visa take?

Normally 15 calendar days after a complete file is lodged, extendable to 45 days under the EU Visa Code. Appointments are booked online with Intiana, and the Karachi consulate releases slots daily, so start several weeks before your trip.

What happens if my documents are incomplete?

The Italian Consulate General in Karachi says the Intiana centre will not accept an incomplete application. That is not a refusal, but you will need to come back with the missing papers, which can delay your trip.

Is there an official Malta visa refusal rate for Pakistan?

No. Italy decides Malta visas in Pakistan, so Malta has no row for Pakistan in the European Commission's 2024 consulate table. If you are refused, the letter comes from the Italian mission, and no Malta-specific rate for Pakistani applicants is published.
