Jordan's Ministry of Interior lists the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a restricted nationality, which means you need prior approval before you travel and cannot simply buy a visa at Queen Alia airport. The approval request is not usually made by the traveller alone. For a tourist visa, a Jordanian tourism office licensed by the Ministry of Tourism applies for you; for a family or business visit, a sponsor in Jordan, such as a relative living there legally or a company, files the request through the Ministry of Interior e-services. Once approved, you receive an electronic notice of approval, and the visa fee itself starts at JOD 40 for a one-month single entry.

Petra's rose-red facades, the desert silence of Wadi Rum, the salt water of the Dead Sea and the shrines of the Prophet's Companions are all good reasons to visit Jordan. Getting there takes some planning. Jordan's Ministry of Interior lists Pakistan as a restricted nationality, which means your visa must be approved before you travel. Unlike visitors from many other countries, you cannot just land at Queen Alia International Airport and buy a visa at the counter.

In most cases, someone in Jordan makes the request for you. For a holiday, a Jordanian tourism office that meets the Ministry of Tourism's conditions files a tourist visa application. For family or business trips, a sponsor who lives in Jordan legally, or a Jordanian company, applies for a visit visa through the Ministry of Interior e-services, its mobile app or a service counter. The application has to be made while you are outside Jordan, and the decision arrives electronically by notice, SMS and email.

The visa fee itself is set nationally. Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lists JOD 40 for a single entry valid one month, JOD 60 for a double entry of up to three months and JOD 120 for multiple entries over up to six months. The Ministry of Interior adds a small JOD 2 service allowance per person for the approval request. If time is short, an urgent service for visit and transit visas costs JOD 100 for up to five people, though no official turnaround time is published.

Have a copy of your passport ready, valid for at least six months, along with papers showing your link to the sponsor and why you are visiting. Pakistanis working in the Gulf should add a copy of their residence permit, valid for at least six months, and their exit and re-entry visa. The ministry may ask for a personal interview, which you can attend at the nearest Jordanian embassy with your electronic application number. For applicants in Pakistan, that is the Embassy of Jordan in Islamabad's Diplomatic Enclave.

Think about your route as well. Restricted nationalities need a visa arranged beforehand even when flying into Aqaba, and restricted nationals who enter at the Wadi Araba crossing must leave the same way. If you only need to pass through, a transit visa gives you 72 hours and cannot be extended. Jordan does not publish an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants, so start the paperwork early and keep your flights flexible until the approval notice is in hand.

  • If you live outside Pakistan, a copy of your residence permit from that country valid for at least 6 months, plus a copy of your exit and re-entry visa
  • Proof of your relationship to the sponsor and the reason for the visit (visit visa)

Documents from the Ministry of Interior service cards for visit, tourist and transit visas for restricted nationalities. The person in Jordan who applies on your behalf is called the summoner; the Ministry may also ask you to attend a personal interview, which can take place at the nearest Jordanian embassy using your electronic application number.

Fees

  • Official fee

    JOD 40

JOD 40 for a single-entry visa valid for one month, JOD 60 for a double-entry visa of up to three months and JOD 120 for a multiple-entry visa of up to six months, according to Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which says these rates apply to all nationalities. On top of that, the Ministry of Interior charges a service allowance of JOD 2 per person for the prior-approval application, or JOD 100 for up to five people (plus JOD 15 for each extra person) on the urgent service for visit and transit visas. Rates can change without notice, so confirm the total with the Jordanian embassy before you travel.

  • Service or extra charges

Jordan does not use an outsourced visa centre for Pakistani applicants. Prior-approval requests go through the Ministry of Interior e-services, its mobile app or its service counters, and are paid through eFawateercom or direct payment.

Timeline

  • Processing and appointments

Jordan’s Ministry of Interior does not publish a fixed processing time for prior approval. It checks the request with other government bodies, may ask for a personal interview, and then sends its decision electronically by account notice, SMS and email. An urgent service is available for visit and transit visas at a higher fee.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Jordan?

Yes, and it must be approved before you travel. Jordan’s Ministry of Interior lists Pakistan as a restricted nationality, so you need prior approval rather than a visa bought on arrival.

Can Pakistanis get a visa on arrival at Queen Alia airport?

Not without prior approval. The airport visa on arrival is for non-restricted nationalities. As a Pakistani passport holder, arrange approval through a sponsor or a licensed Jordanian tourism office first, and carry the approval notice when you fly.

Who applies for my Jordan visa?

For a tourist visa, a Jordanian tourism office that meets the Ministry of Tourism’s conditions submits the request. For a visit visa, a sponsor in Jordan, either a legally resident person or a company, applies through the Ministry of Interior e-services, its mobile app or a service counter. You must be outside Jordan when the request is made.

How much is the Jordan visa fee?

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lists JOD 40 for a single-entry visa valid one month, JOD 60 for a double entry of up to three months and JOD 120 for a multiple entry of up to six months. The Ministry of Interior adds a JOD 2 service allowance per person for the approval request.

Is there a faster option?

Yes, for visit and transit visas. The Ministry of Interior’s urgent service costs JOD 100 for up to five people on one application, plus JOD 15 for each extra person. It does not publish how much faster it is.

I am a Pakistani living in Saudi Arabia or the UAE. What extra papers do I need?

The Ministry of Interior asks for a copy of your residence permit in that country, valid for at least six months, and a copy of your exit and re-entry visa. Your passport must also have at least six months left.

Will I need an interview?

Possibly. The Ministry can ask you to attend a personal interview, and you can do it at the nearest Jordanian embassy, which has access to the electronic system. Bring your electronic application number. For Pakistan, the embassy is in the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad (+92-51-2833311/12).

Can I transit through Jordan on a Pakistani passport?

If you need to leave the airport, you need a transit visa, which is also approved in advance for restricted nationalities. It lasts 72 hours from entry and cannot be extended, and you must show you can enter your next country.

Can I fly into Aqaba or cross at Wadi Araba without a visa?

No. The official Jordan Pass guidance says restricted nationalities flying into Aqaba need a visa arranged beforehand, and restricted nationals who enter at Wadi Araba must leave by the same border.

Can I extend my stay in Jordan?

The official Jordan Pass guidance says a single-entry visa is valid for one month and can be extended at a police station for a fee. Ask about your own case before your month ends, as restricted nationalities may be treated differently.
