As stated on the e-visa

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad has announced that entry visas to Iraq for Arab and foreign nationals are now issued through the electronic visa platform, and that applications must be submitted exclusively through eservice.evisa.iq. Pakistani passport holders should therefore apply online and receive the approved visa before travelling, rather than visiting the mission.

Iraq draws Pakistani travellers above all for its holy cities. Karbala and Najaf host the shrines of Imam Hussain and Imam Ali, Kadhimiya and Samarra lie near Baghdad, and the Arbaeen walk brings millions of pilgrims each year. Others come for the ruins of Babylon, the marshes of the south or business in Baghdad and Basra.

Pakistani passport holders need a visa to enter Iraq. In December 2025 the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad announced that entry visas for Arab and foreign nationals are now granted through the official electronic visa platform at eservice.evisa.iq.

The embassy asks applicants to apply exclusively through that link. The platform handles both submission and tracking, so most travellers do not need to visit the mission at all. Keep the approved visa with your passport, because airlines check it before boarding.

Visa on arrival is not an option for Pakistanis. Iraqi missions abroad explain that the old airport visa was only for a short list of countries, mainly Western states, Japan and South Korea, and that since March 2025 even those travellers must get the e-visa in advance.

Neither the fee nor a processing time appears in the embassy notice, so check both on the platform before paying. Pilgrimage groups, business visitors and families should each choose the visa type that fits their trip, and should ignore unofficial sites that copy the Iraqi visa design.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Pakistani passport
  • Online application on the official Iraqi e-visa platform (eservice.evisa.iq)
  • Visa fee paid as shown on the platform
  • Approved e-visa to show to the airline and to Iraqi border officers
  • Any supporting documents the platform asks for, depending on the visa type

The Islamabad embassy announcement is addressed to applicants in Pakistan and states that the electronic platform is the only channel for entry visa applications. Visa on arrival at Iraqi airports was reserved for a short list of countries and has itself been replaced by the e-visa; Pakistan was not on that list.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Iraq?

Yes. Pakistani passport holders need an entry visa. The Embassy of Iraq in Islamabad says entry visas for foreign nationals are now granted through the official electronic platform, and applications must be made there.

Where do I apply for an Iraqi visa from Pakistan?

Online at eservice.evisa.iq. The embassy in Islamabad asks applicants to submit their requests exclusively through that link rather than at the mission.

Do I need to visit the embassy in Islamabad?

Normally no. The announcement says the platform lets you submit and follow your application electronically without needing to go to the mission.

Can Pakistanis get a visa on arrival in Iraq?

No. Iraqi missions explain that visa on arrival was limited to a list of countries such as the UN Security Council permanent members, EU states, Japan and South Korea, and that even those travellers now need the e-visa. Pakistan was never on that list.

How much does the Iraq e-visa cost?

The embassy announcement does not state a fee. The amount appears on the official platform during the application, so confirm it there before paying.

How long does processing take?

No official processing time is given. You can track the application on the platform, and it is sensible to apply several weeks before your flight.

When did the e-visa system start?

Iraqi missions report that the Ministry of Interior launched electronic entry visa applications from 1 March 2025. The Islamabad embassy confirmed the platform for applicants in Pakistan in December 2025.

I am travelling for Arbaeen or ziyarat. Is the process different?

The announcement covers entry visas for Arab and foreign nationals generally and does not set out a separate pilgrimage route. Apply through the same platform and choose the visa type that matches your trip.

Does the Kurdistan Region follow the same rules?

The embassy notice refers to the federal electronic platform. If your trip is only to Erbil or Sulaymaniyah, check the platform and your airline before booking, because arrangements for the Kurdistan Region can differ.

Should I print my e-visa?

Yes. Keep a printed or digital copy of the approved visa with your passport, since airlines and border officers may ask to see it.

Is there an official refusal rate?

No. Iraq does not publish approval or refusal statistics for Pakistani applicants.

Are there fake Iraq visa sites?

Several unofficial sites offer Iraqi visas for a fee. The embassy names eservice.evisa.iq as the official link, so apply only there.
