Pakistani citizens need a Schengen visa (type C) to visit Portugal. You request an appointment by email from the consular section of the Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad, then submit the application at Gerry's, the Embassy's external service provider.

Getting a Portugal visit visa from Pakistan starts differently from most Schengen countries, because you do not pick a slot on a booking website. The Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad asks you to request a visa appointment by email to its consular section at sconsular.islamabad@mne.pt, and the Embassy then contacts you with a date. The application itself is submitted only at Gerry's, the Embassy's external service provider.

The email must come from you. The Embassy says nobody else can ask for an appointment on your behalf. In the body, give your full name, passport number, occupation and travel plan, attach copies of any previous visas, and explain the purpose of the trip clearly. The Embassy says replies can take up to 10 working days because of the number of requests, and it does not answer duplicate emails, so send one complete message and wait. Use this address for every visa question, because the Embassy does not consider visa emails sent to its general address.

Apply to Portugal only if it is your main destination, or your first point of entry when your stays in several countries are equal. Download the Schengen application form from the Embassy's visa page. The European Commission lists the core documents for every Schengen file. You need a passport valid for at least three months after you leave the Schengen area and an ICAO-standard photo. You also need travel medical insurance that covers emergency care, hospital treatment and repatriation, plus evidence of the purpose of your trip, your accommodation, your money and your return to Pakistan.

The Embassy says applications can be submitted up to six months before travel and, in individual and justified cases, no later than 15 calendar days before. A decision is due within 15 calendar days of an admissible application. That can be extended to 45 days when a closer look is needed. To cancel an application and get your passport back, email the consular section with a copy of your visa application receipt.

If your visa is refused, the Embassy describes a review route, which is a complaint to the consular section within 15 days of the refusal notice. It says these appeals are submitted in person at Gerry's visa centre, without an appointment. The Schengen visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12 under EU rules, and the service provider charges its own fee on top.
