Pitcairn's immigration rules do not distinguish by nationality: every arriving person without right of abode, permanent residence or a legal exemption must obtain leave to enter, so the same rules apply to Pakistani passport holders. Visitors staying 14 days or less who arrive and leave on the same vessel can get a short-term visitor visa from an immigration officer on arrival. Stays longer than 14 days need a long-term visitor visa, applied for in advance and decided by the Governor after consulting the Island Council.

The Pitcairn Islands are a British Overseas Territory in the South Pacific, about 2,170 km east-south-east of Tahiti, with Pitcairn the only inhabited island of the group. Its roughly fifty residents descend from the HMAV Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions, and most visitors arrive briefly by cruise ship, yacht or supply vessel.

Entry is governed by the Pitcairn Islands Immigration Policy, made under the Immigration Control Ordinance 2006 and signed in March 2026. It sets one regime for everybody who lacks right of abode or permanent residence, so Pakistani travellers are treated exactly like any other nationality.

For short calls the process is simple. If you will stay 14 days or less and leave on the same vessel, an immigration officer issues a short-term visitor visa when you land, using a combined immigration and biosecurity form handed out on arrival. You do not need to apply in advance, although you can contact the Chief Immigration Officer beforehand.

You still have to meet four tests: good character, acceptable health, adequate travel and medical insurance, and the means to support yourself. Insurance must cover emergency evacuation and repatriation, which matters on an island so far from any hospital. Applicable fees are collected on arrival.

A longer visit needs a long-term visitor visa before you travel. That means an application form, medical and chest X-ray forms, police certificates, the NZ$150 fee and a decision by the Governor after consulting the Island Council. The visa lasts six months and can be extended.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Valid Pakistani passport (travel document) shown on arrival
  • Combined immigration and biosecurity declaration form (handed out on arrival)
  • Travel and medical insurance covering treatment, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains for the whole stay
  • Evidence of funds (cash, cards, bank statement) or a written sponsorship undertaking
  • Applicable fees paid on arrival
  • For stays over 14 days: long-term visitor visa form, general medical certificate and chest X-ray form, police certificates and the NZ$150 fee

No Pakistan-specific rule exists; the policy applies to all visitors. If you would answer "yes" to the character, immigration-history or health questions on the declaration, contact Pitcairn immigration before travelling, as a waiver may be needed.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for the Pitcairn Islands?

Yes, but for short trips it is issued on arrival. Anyone staying 14 days or less and leaving on the same vessel can get a short-term visitor visa from the immigration officer.

Is there a different rule for Pakistani passports?

No. The Pitcairn Immigration Policy sets one set of rules for every visitor who lacks right of abode or permanent residence.

What do I need to show on arrival?

A valid travel document, the completed immigration and biosecurity declaration, proof of insurance and evidence that you can pay your way. Fees are paid on arrival.

What insurance is required?

Cover for the whole stay that includes medical treatment, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains, from a reputable insurer.

How do I prove I have enough money?

Cash, cards with available credit, a bank statement you can access on the island, or a written sponsorship undertaking. Business visitors can use an employer letter.

What if I want to stay longer than 14 days?

Apply in advance for a long-term visitor visa: the form, a medical certificate and chest X-ray form, police certificates from Pakistan and any country you lived in for over 12 months, and the NZ$150 fee.

Who decides long-term visas?

The Governor of Pitcairn, after consulting the Pitcairn Island Council.

How long does a long-term visitor visa last?

Six months, and an extension of up to six months can be requested before it expires.

Can I work as a visitor?

No. Neither short-term nor long-term visitor visas allow work or business activity on the island without a work permit.

I have a criminal record. Can I still visit?

Possibly. The policy allows the character requirement to be waived after looking at all the circumstances, but you should contact Pitcairn immigration before you travel.

Does a visa guarantee I can land?

No. The policy says a visa does not by itself entitle you to leave to enter, which is granted by an immigration officer on Pitcairn Island.

Where do I send a long-term application?

By email to Pitcairn immigration through the contact form on the government website, with all forms, certificates and supporting papers attached.

Is Pitcairn administered from the island?

The government website says the administrative headquarters are in Auckland, New Zealand, and visa fees are quoted in New Zealand dollars.

Is there an official refusal rate?

No. Pitcairn does not publish visa refusal figures.
