USA B1 B2 Visa Documents for Pakistan

Pakistani passport holders need a B-1/B-2 visitor visa, applied for at a U.S. embassy or consulate before travel. B-1 covers business visits such as meetings or conferences. B-2 covers tourism, family visits and medical treatment. Choose the purpose that accurately describes your trip on the DS-160.

The U.S. Mission in Pakistan has two visa-processing posts:

• U.S. Embassy Islamabad, which handles both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas.
• U.S. Consulate General Karachi, which handles nonimmigrant visas only.

The Mission asks you to apply in your country of residence or nationality. Scheduling, fee collection, visa information and passport delivery are handled by the Mission's contractor through the official USTravelDocs Pakistan site. Use that site, not an agent's portal, to book.

The State Department's visitor-visa page lists these documents:

• DS-160 confirmation page
• A photograph that meets the DS-160 photo rules
• A passport valid for travel
• Proof of payment of the visa application (MRV) fee
• An interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate, unless you qualify for a waiver under current rules
• Evidence that may explain the purpose of your trip, your available funds and your ties abroad

According to the State Department's visitor-visa page, an invitation letter or Affidavit of Support is not required for a visitor visa. You may still bring relevant supporting material. The Consulate General in Karachi's nonimmigrant visa page says there is no specific list of supporting documents. It advises bringing documents that show your ties and the purpose of your trip, and notes that the officer may or may not look at them.

1. Complete the DS-160 on the official CEAC site. Answer every question truthfully and consistently with your documents, upload a compliant photo, and save the confirmation page with its barcode.
2. Pay the MRV fee through USTravelDocs Pakistan. The Mission says fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, and the receipt can be used to schedule an appointment for 365 days.
3. Book your interview in Islamabad or Karachi through USTravelDocs. Expedited appointments are only for genuinely urgent travel, and you must show evidence of the urgency.
4. Attend the interview. The Karachi consulate asks applicants to arrive 15 minutes before the appointment. Bring your passport, DS-160 confirmation, appointment letter and supporting evidence.
5. Collect your passport through the delivery option chosen on USTravelDocs if the visa is approved.

From 11 August 2025, the Mission says almost all nonimmigrant visa applicants in Pakistan need an in-person interview, including children under 14 and adults over 79. The main exception is a B-1/B-2 renewal applied for within 12 months of the previous visa's expiry, where that earlier full-validity visa was issued when you were 18 or older. The consular officer can still require an interview.

No official list applies to every case. The examples below are ways to show your purpose, funds and ties, which is what the visitor-visa page asks you to explain:

Keep documents organised and current. At the interview, answer questions directly. Your DS-160 answers and your spoken answers should tell the same story.

Check the current MRV fee on the State Department fee page before you pay; do not rely on an old figure. Interview wait times depend on each post's workload. The State Department does not publish one Pakistan-wide figure, so check the current wait-time information for Islamabad or Karachi.

The Karachi consulate advises applying at least 6 months before your planned trip and not buying non-refundable tickets before you have a visa. If your case goes into administrative processing, the consulate says most cases are resolved within 60 days. It asks applicants to wait 90 days before making an inquiry.

The U.S. Department of State FY2025 adjusted B-visa refusal-rate table lists Pakistan at 52.32%. This is an official fiscal-year statistic for the whole nationality. It is not a prediction, an approval probability or an assessment of any particular applicant. Each decision depends on the facts and evidence in the case, the interview and applicable law.

• Booking through an unofficial site instead of USTravelDocs Pakistan.
• DS-160 answers that do not match your passport, job letter or travel plan.
• Buying non-refundable tickets before the visa is issued.
• Relying on an agent's "guaranteed" appointment or approval. No one outside the consulate can promise either.
