The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade lists Pakistan under Asia with the answer "Visa for foreign citizens: Needed", so an ordinary Pakistani passport holder must get a C visa before travelling. Exceptions exist for Pakistanis who already hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen, British, American or Canadian visa, or residence in an EU or Schengen state: they may enter without a Macedonian visa for up to 15 days per entry under conditions set by the Ministry.

North Macedonia is a landlocked Balkan republic between Serbia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania. Visitors come for Lake Ohrid and its old churches, the bazaar and riverside of Skopje, wine country around Tikveš and mountain parks such as Mavrovo and Galičica. It is a candidate for EU membership but not yet part of the Schengen area.

For Pakistani passport holders the answer is clear: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade lists Pakistan among the countries whose nationals need a visa. Ordinary travellers therefore apply for a short-stay C visa before they leave, unless an exemption tied to another visa or residence applies.

Those exemptions are worth checking first. A valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, temporary or permanent residence in an EU or Schengen state, or a multiple-entry British, American or Canadian visa in your passport can let you enter for up to 15 days at a time. The UK, US and Canada waiver is temporary and runs until 31 December 2026.

If you need the visa, you apply in person at a Macedonian diplomatic or consular mission that covers your area, between six months and 15 days before departure. You bring the form, a passport issued within ten years, a photo, insurance, proof of funds and accommodation, and either a notarised guarantee letter or a company invitation.

The C visa fee is 60 euros for adults and 35 euros for children aged 6 to 12. Refusals can be appealed within eight days to a state commission. Stays beyond 90 days need temporary residence from the Ministry of Interior, followed by a long-stay D visa.

Pakistan is listed as a visa-required country. Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for North Macedonia?

Yes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Pakistan as a country whose citizens need a visa, unless they qualify for one of the exemptions for holders of certain foreign visas or residence permits.

Which visa do I need for a holiday or business trip?

A short-stay and transit visa, called the C visa, covers visits of up to 90 days. Transit visas under the same category allow up to 5 days in the country.

How much is the C visa fee?

60 euros for adults and 35 euros for children aged 6 to 12, set under Tariff No. 135 of the Law on Administrative Fees.

Can I enter with my Schengen visa instead?

Yes, if it is a valid multiple-entry Schengen C visa that stays valid at least 5 days beyond your planned stay. You may then stay up to 15 days per entry, within 90 days in any 180-day period.

Does a UK, US or Canadian visa help?

Under a temporary government decision valid from 1 January to 31 December 2026, a valid multiple-entry British, American or Canadian visa in your passport lets you stay up to 15 days, provided it remains valid 5 days past the trip.

I live in Dubai with a residence permit. Does that count?

No. The exemption is for temporary or permanent residence in an EU member state or a Schengen country, not Gulf residence permits.

Where do I apply?

At the competent resident or non-resident diplomatic or consular mission of North Macedonia, in person. A proxy may apply only for a disabled applicant or a well-known person with no doubt about bona fides.

How early can I apply?

No more than six months and at least 15 days before your trip starts.

What is a letter of guarantee?

A notarised statement from a Macedonian citizen or legal resident, or an invitation from a registered company or state body, that can prove accommodation and funds if the host promises to cover your costs.

What insurance is needed?

Travel medical insurance valid for the whole stay, covering urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons.

Can I appeal a refusal?

Yes. You have eight days from receiving the decision to appeal in writing, in Macedonian Cyrillic, to the State Commission for second-instance administrative decisions, after paying the prescribed fee.

Can I stay longer than 90 days?

You first need temporary residence approved by the Ministry of Interior, then a D visa, which costs 70 euros. Grounds include work, study, family reunion and medical treatment.
