Malaysia Visa for Pakistan Passport

Yes. The MyVISA terms and conditions say an eVISA Single Entry Visa (SEV) is mandatory for citizens of 31 specified countries travelling for social purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, or attending short-term events. Pakistan is on that list, along with India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and others. Visa-free entry does not apply to Pakistani passports for these visits.

You can apply from anywhere in the world except Malaysia itself, Israel and North Korea. So you can apply from Karachi, from Dubai where you work, or from anywhere else, as long as you are outside Malaysia.

The portal offers two social-visit products:

1. Single Entry Visa (SEV): one journey. For ordinary social visits it is valid for six months from the date of issue. You must enter within that period. Some categories, such as Fly & Cruise and Wedding Tourism, are valid for three months.
2. Multiple Entry Visa (MEV): several journeys. MyVISA lists validity of three months for Fly & Cruise and Wedding Tourism, and six months for Medical and Business visitors.

For both types, the permitted stay is 30 days per entry, as long as your passport stays valid. If you already hold an active Malaysian visa, it is cancelled automatically once a new eVISA is approved, so time new applications carefully.

MyVISA also has a "Visa With Reference" (VDR) route for people with a Visa Approval Letter for study, work or medical travel. Tourists do not need it.

1. Go only to the official portal at malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my. The Immigration Department warns that it is not responsible for problems caused by unofficial or third-party eVISA websites.
2. Register an account, choose Pakistan as your nationality, and pick the social-visit category that matches your trip.
3. Upload clear images of the documents the form asks for, such as your passport photo, passport pages, flight booking, paid accommodation and any supporting documents. The terms warn that blurred or unreadable uploads can lead to refusal, or to being turned away at the airport.
4. Applicants under 18 must upload a birth certificate.
5. Pay online. The visa fee is charged at the rate set by Malaysia's Fees (Passport and Visas) Order 1967. A separate eVISA processing fee and optional convenience fees are shown at checkout. Check the total on the portal before you pay.
6. Watch your email and the application status.

The MyVISA terms say you will receive an email about approval within 2 to 7 working days of payment and full submission. That count excludes weekends, Malaysian public holidays, and holidays at the approving location. It also excludes incomplete applications and any time spent on a document query or interview.

The status labels you may see are:

1. eVISA Under Review: being assessed
2. Document Submission or Information Update Required: upload what is asked. The 2–7 day count restarts from your new upload.
3. Interview Requested: the approving officer wants to speak to you
4. Application Successful: download your eVISA
5. Application Denied: refused. The mission can refuse without giving a reason.

Because a document request resets the clock, apply at least a few weeks before you travel rather than a few days.

An approved eVISA does not guarantee entry. The MyVISA terms list what you must be ready to show at the entry point:

1. A passport valid for at least six months
2. The eVISA printout or digital eVISA note
3. Your boarding pass, ticket or arrival pass, where applicable
4. A confirmed return ticket, where applicable
5. Proof of paid accommodation
6. Other supporting documents, such as proof of funds or a pass or visa for the country where you live

Carry these as paper copies in your hand luggage. Don't rely on mobile data at the arrival hall.

The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is separate from the eVISA. It is submitted on the Immigration Department's own portal at imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac. The official form says your trip must fall within three days, including the day of submission. So you fill it in during the last three days before you land, not when you get your visa. It asks for your passport details, last port of embarkation and where you will stay. Every traveller, including children, needs their own MDAC.

Ignore websites that charge a fee to "process" your MDAC. The official form is on the Immigration Department's domain.

The eVISA is for social visits only. The MyVISA terms say visitors may not take unauthorised work, attend school, or represent foreign media. Breaking Malaysian law can lead to criminal proceedings and administrative action. Overstaying your 30-day entry is a serious problem, so book your return flight inside that limit.

Many Pakistani travellers plan Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in one trip. Keep two points in mind. First, a Single Entry Visa allows one journey into Malaysia. If you fly into Kuala Lumpur, cross to Singapore and then come back into Malaysia to fly home, that is a second entry. Your single-entry eVISA will not cover it. You would need a Multiple Entry Visa if your category allows one, or a second eVISA. Second, Malaysia's eVISA does not cover any other country. Singapore needs its own visa through ICA's system (see our Singapore visa guide for Pakistan), and Thailand has its own rules. Sort out your route first, then apply for the right visas in the right order.

1. Uploading an unpaid or "pay at hotel" booking when paid accommodation is expected
2. Blurry phone photos of passport pages
3. A passport that will have less than six months left on arrival
4. Applying through a lookalike site and paying a middleman
5. Forgetting the MDAC and completing it in a rush at the airport
