Summary

Embassy visa required
Visa type
Kosovo short-stay visa (type C) from a Kosovo diplomatic or consular mission
Stay limit
Up to 90 days in each six-month period on a C visa; 15 days under the Schengen-document exemption
Entries
Single or multiple entry (multiple-entry C visas valid six months to five years)

Pakistan is not on Kosovo’s official list of countries whose citizens can enter without a visa, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora states that anyone not on that list, and not in a special category, must apply for a Kosovo visa to visit or transit. The main shortcut for Pakistanis is a valid biometric Schengen residence permit or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, which allows entry, transit and a stay of up to 15 days without a Kosovo visa. Otherwise apply in person at a Kosovo diplomatic or consular mission; the short-stay C visa fee is €40.

Kosovo, Europe’s youngest country, rewards visitors with the Ottoman old town of Prizren, the Serbian Orthodox monasteries of Dečani and Gračanica and the hiking trails of the Rugova valley. Pakistanis need a Kosovo visa unless they already hold the right Schengen document.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora publishes the list of countries whose citizens can enter without a visa. Pakistan is absent from it, and the ministry states plainly that anyone not listed, and not in a special category, must apply for a visa to visit or even transit Kosovo.

The most useful special category for Pakistanis covers holders of a biometric Schengen residence permit or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. They can enter, transit and stay in Kosovo for up to 15 days without a separate visa, which suits a side trip from a Schengen tour.

Everyone else applies in person at a Kosovo diplomatic or consular mission, no later than three months before travel. The file has the signed form, a passport valid three months beyond departure, an ICAO photo, proof of purpose, accommodation and funds, and Kosovo health insurance. The C visa fee is €40.

Supporting documents must be in Albanian, Serbian or English and submitted in two copies, and the consular officer may ask for more. A refused applicant can complain to the mission within eight calendar days. The C visa allows up to 90 days in each six-month period.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Kosovo visa application form (type C for stays under 3 months), completed and signed in original
  • Copy of your Pakistani passport, valid at least three months after you leave Kosovo, with at least two blank pages
  • One photograph not older than one month, to ICAO standards
  • Evidence of the purpose of your stay in Kosovo
  • Proof of accommodation, or of enough money to pay for it
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay and for your return or onward journey
  • Health insurance valid in Kosovo for the whole stay
  • Proof of payment of the €40 C visa fee, using the bank details given by the mission
  • Two copies of every document; translations into Albanian, Serbian or English

Pakistan does not appear among the visa-exempt countries on the ministry’s list, which mixes European, Gulf, Caribbean, Pacific and Latin American states. A valid biometric Schengen residence permit or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa exempts its holder from the Kosovo visa for up to 15 days, which is the easiest route for Pakistanis living in or regularly visiting Europe.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Kosovo?

Yes, unless you hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa or a biometric Schengen residence permit. Pakistan is not on Kosovo’s visa-free list, and the ministry says citizens of unlisted countries must apply for a visa.

Can I enter Kosovo with a Schengen visa?

Yes, if it is a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. It covers entry, transit and a stay of up to 15 days without a separate Kosovo visa. A biometric Schengen residence permit works the same way.

Does a single-entry Schengen visa work?

No. The exemption names a valid multi-entry Schengen visa or a biometric Schengen residence permit, so a single-entry Schengen visa does not qualify.

Where do I apply for a Kosovo visa?

In person at the relevant diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Kosovo, no later than three months before your visit begins.

How much is the Kosovo visa fee?

€40 for a short-stay C visa and €80 for a long-stay D visa. The mission you apply to gives the bank details for payment.

How long can I stay on a C visa?

The C visa is for stays of up to 90 days in each six-month period. Multiple-entry C visas can be issued with validity from six months to five years.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Health insurance valid in Kosovo for the entire stay is part of the required file.

In which language should documents be?

All supporting documents must be in one of Kosovo’s official languages or in English, and you submit two copies of everything.

Can I appeal a refusal?

Yes. You may file a complaint with the mission that handled the application within 8 calendar days of the refusal.

Does a visa guarantee entry?

No. The ministry notes that holding a visa does not automatically give the right of entry; border police still check documents, funds and purpose.

Do I need a visa just to transit Kosovo?

Yes, unless you qualify for an exemption. The ministry says citizens of countries not on the visa-free list must apply for a visa to visit or transit.

Is there an official approval rate for Pakistanis?

No. Kosovo does not publish an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants.
