Pakistani citizens need a Schengen visa for Hungary. The Embassy of Hungary in Islamabad handles the applications, with appointments booked through Gerry's/VFS Global in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi. The same embassy also issues Schengen visas for Lithuania and Estonia, and a refused applicant has 8 calendar days to appeal in person.
Hungary is a Schengen country, so Pakistani passport holders need a short-stay type C Schengen visa for Budapest, Lake Balaton or a family visit. The Embassy of Hungary in Islamabad is the deciding authority, and it has outsourced appointments and document collection to Gerry's visa offices in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, booked through the VFS Global Hungary–Pakistan site. Family members of EU citizens can book directly with the embassy by email instead. Under bilateral agreements, the embassy's consular and visa section also issues Schengen visas for Lithuania and Estonia to residents of Pakistan. If one of those countries is your main destination, you apply here too.
The embassy explains which country is responsible for your application. Apply to Hungary if it is your only destination, if you will spend the most time there or travel there for the main purpose of the trip, or, if stays are equal, if Hungary is where you first enter the Schengen area. The application is admissible only if you lodge it within six months of the trip. You also need a fully completed and signed form, a passport issued in the last ten years with at least two blank pages and valid for three months after you leave the Schengen area, a colour photo no older than six months, your fingerprints and the visa fee. Without these, the embassy will not consider the application.
Most first-time visitors get a single-entry visa. The embassy says a two-entry or multiple-entry visa is possible if you show a real need to travel often and prove you have used earlier Schengen visas lawfully. For supporting documents, the embassy links to its own list by travel purpose and to the European Commission's 2018 decision setting the harmonised list for applicants in Pakistan. That means proof of where you live, travel and accommodation bookings, financial records and ties to Pakistan, plus an invitation for family or business trips. The consul may still ask for extra documents.
Hungary's official figures make careful preparation important. European Commission statistics show that 627 of 1,179 decided Schengen applications at Hungary's consulate in Pakistan were not issued in 2024, which is 53.2%. That is far above the 14.6% Schengen-wide refusal rate the Commission reported for 2025. These figures describe past decisions by place of application and do not predict your own result. They are a good reason to make sure your bank records, employment proof and itinerary match your stated plans.
The embassy says a decision should not take longer than 15 calendar days, with a maximum of 45 days in individual cases. If you are refused, the reasons are given on the standard refusal form, which only you can collect in person at the consulate, and the visa fee is not refunded. You may appeal within 8 calendar days of receiving the refusal. You submit a signed written appeal in person at the embassy's consular section, by appointment booked by email. The appeal fee is paid in rupees with a special deposit slip from the visa officer and is not refunded even if you win. The embassy adds that a previous refusal has no legal effect on future applications.
