A germany visit visa from pakistan does not start on France-Visas or Italy’s BLS portal. Short-stay applications are handled by the German Embassy in Islamabad or the German Consulate General in Karachi, using the missions’ own RK-Termin online waiting-list / appointment systems, the Videx application form, and—where designated—VFS Global centres in Pakistan for biometric lodging. This guide covers who needs the visa, how the Pakistan missions split jurisdictions, why Schengen files are still not fully online on the Consular Services Portal, documents, published fees, and official links only.
Who needs a Germany visit visa?
Germany is a Schengen State. Pakistani passport holders need a Schengen Short-Stay Visa (Type C) for tourism and other visits under 90 days in any 180-day period. Apply to the mission of your main destination; if stays are equal, apply where you first enter Schengen.
Pakistani passport holders must obtain a Schengen short-stay visa from a German mission before travel.
VisitVisaInfo shares general information from official government and embassy sources. We are not a government agency, visa centre, or law firm, and we do not lodge applications or give legal advice. Always re-check the official page before you book or apply.
Where Pakistanis apply: Islamabad vs Karachi
The German missions in Pakistan publish a clear residence split on Visa: Short-term-stay / Schengen (Federal Foreign Office / pakistan.diplo.de):
- Embassy Islamabad — Who can apply: Residents of Islamabad Capital Territory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab
- Consulate General Karachi — Who can apply: Residents of Sindh and Balochistan
You must register in the system of the mission that covers your residence. Registering in both, or using agents who sell “priority” waiting-list places, can get duplicate entries cancelled. The missions state that waiting-list registration is free—anyone asking for money at that stage is a fraudster and should be reported to Pakistani police.
Appointment system: RK-Termin waiting lists, not open calendars
Unlike some Schengen posts that open daily slots on a commercial VAC site, both German missions in Pakistan operate a waiting list through the Federal Foreign Office RK-Termin appointment system (linked from pakistan.diplo.de — short-term / Schengen; the live registrar runs on the Foreign Office service2.diplo.de/rktermin/… hosts).
- Register online in the Embassy Islamabad or Consulate Karachi RK-Termin waiting list (use the correct mission link on pakistan.diplo.de).
- Receive email confirmation with a waiting-list number and status information.
- When capacity allows, the mission allocates a final appointment date—you do not pick an open calendar slot at registration.
Karachi’s system also asks for travel-purpose details during registration so the consulate can allocate fairly. Complete every field carefully; incomplete data can block allocation.
If your fingerprints were taken for a Schengen visa within the past 59 months, the German missions allow you to tick the biometrics-reuse box during registration and may exempt you from personal appearance—provide the correct previous biometrics date (not always the same as your last visa sticker date).
Consular Services Portal: Schengen not yet online
The Federal Foreign Office’s Consular Services Portal lets many applicants file national (long-stay) visas online. The same official page states that applications for Schengen visas cannot yet be accepted online on that portal. For a short tourist trip from Pakistan, continue with the paper/Videx + waiting-list process on pakistan.diplo.de—do not try to force a Schengen case through a long-stay online category at another mission.
Forms and lodging: Videx + VFS Global
Videx online form. German missions ask applicants to use the Videx online Schengen form, print it (including the barcode page), and bring the printout to the appointment. The barcode speeds data entry at the counter. A bilingual German–English form is also linked from the Federal Foreign Office visa pages if needed.
VFS Global in Pakistan. VFS Global operates German visa application centres in Pakistan for biometric capture and file submission after you have an appointment from the mission. VFS’s Pakistan–Germany pages state that appointments must be booked only through the German Foreign Office / RK-Termin system, not on VFS alone. When you attend the centre you pay the Schengen visa fee under mission rules plus any VFS service fee shown on the live VFS page—service amounts change; check before you go.
Do not copy older third-party VFS fee tables that still show a Schengen visa amount below the current harmonised rate. The adult short-stay fee cited in this guide is €90 (children 6–12 €45) from the European Commission and the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt)—not a stale VAC marketing page.
Bring documents in the order listed on the mission’s short-stay checklist for your purpose (tourism, business, family visit, etc.). Incomplete sets cause delays or refusal to accept the file.
Documents checklist (Germany / EU baseline)
Follow the category checklist on pakistan.diplo.de for your trip type. EU short-stay baseline (missions may require more):
- Valid passport (expiry at least 3 months after planned departure from Schengen; enough blank pages)
- Videx / Schengen application form printout with barcode
- ICAO-compliant passport photo
- Travel medical insurance covering emergency care, hospitalisation, and repatriation
- Proof of purpose, accommodation, financial means, and intention to return
- Biometrics at lodging unless a 59-month reuse exemption applies
German posts in Pakistan often specify bank-statement periods, employment letters, and—depending on Islamabad vs Karachi—extra items such as a motivation letter. Use the Germany list for your city of residence, not a France or Italy packet.
Fees (published)
Harmonised Schengen short-stay fees confirmed by both the European Commission and the Federal Foreign Office (check the live pages before you pay):
- Adults: €90
- Children aged 6–12: €45
- VFS / centre service fees are extra—see the live VFS Pakistan–Germany page
Sources: European Commission — Applying for a Schengen visa; Federal Foreign Office — Visas for Germany (Schengen processing fee normally EUR 90).
Pakistan × Germany pair approval/refusal rates are not officially published as a Pakistan-specific figure by the Federal Foreign Office or the EU.
How long does processing take?
- Apply window (EU): earliest 6 months before travel; at least 15 days before the intended journey
- Decision (EU): normally about 15 days; may extend to 45 days
Sources: European Commission; Federal Foreign Office confirms up to 15 calendar days for a correct Schengen application and the same six-month earliest window.
The German missions in Pakistan additionally note that short-term processing usually takes about fourteen (14) calendar days from the day of application, with longer times possible in peak seasons. Treat that as mission guidance alongside the EU 15/45-day framework. Waiting-list time before your appointment is separate and can be substantial when demand is high—register as soon as travel plans are firm.
