Pakistan appears on the Zambia Department of Immigration list of nationals requiring a visa prior to travel. For this group, the visa needs advance clearance from the Zambian authorities: you apply online through the eServices portal to the Director General of Immigration and must receive a letter of approval before you fly. Visa on arrival is not available to Pakistani passport holders. A single-entry visa costs US$25, double entry US$40 and multiple entry US$75, payable by credit or debit card when you apply.

Zambia is home to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, the walking safaris of South Luangwa and canoe trips on the Lower Zambezi. For Pakistani passport holders it is a prior-clearance country: the visa must be approved by the Department of Immigration in Lusaka before you board.

The department sorts nationalities into three groups: visa-free, visa on arrival or from missions, and visa prior to travel. Pakistan sits in the third group with India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Applications for this group are made online through the eServices portal and need a letter of approval before departure.

The online process has nine steps. You register an account, complete the Application for Visa (Form 16), upload scanned documents in JPEG, TIFF or PNG, preview and confirm, and pay by credit or debit card. After that you follow the case until it reaches the approved or rejected folder and download the letter.

Since 19 August 2024 the fees are US$25 for a single entry, US$40 for a double entry and US$75 for multiple entries, which only headquarters issues through the e-visa system. Each visa is valid for 90 days from first issuance, and that is the period in which you must enter, not your stay.

Once admitted, visitors and tourists are entitled to 90 free days in any twelve months, which officers may grant in parts with free extensions at an Immigration Office. Passports need six months of validity and three blank pages, and air arrivals must hold a return ticket.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Pakistani passport valid at least six months from the date of entry, with at least three full blank pages
  • Online application (Form 16) submitted through the Zambia Immigration eServices portal
  • Passport-sized photo
  • Copy of the passport bio-data page
  • Cover letter addressed to the Director-General, signed by you (tourism) or by your Zambian host (ordinary visitor)

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Zambia?

Yes. Pakistan is on the official list of nationals requiring a visa prior to travel, so you must apply online and receive an approval letter before you fly.

Can I get a Zambian visa on arrival with a Pakistani passport?

No. Visa on arrival is limited to the nationalities on a separate list, and Pakistan is not among them. Pakistanis need advance clearance from the Director General of Immigration.

How do I apply?

Register an account on the Zambia Immigration eServices portal, choose the visa, complete Form 16, upload the documents, pay online by card and submit. Track the case in your workplace until it moves to the approved folder.

How much is the visa fee?

US$25 for a single entry, US$40 for a double entry and US$75 for multiple entries, under the revised fees in force since 19 August 2024.

How long is the visa valid?

Single, double and multiple-entry visas are valid for 90 days from the date of first issuance. The visa is the window in which you must enter, not the length of stay.

How long can I stay in Zambia?

Visitors and tourists are entitled to a free 90 days in any 12-month period from first entry. The officer may grant fewer days at once, and you can extend at the nearest Immigration Office free of charge.

What do I need for a tourist application?

A passport-sized photo, a copy of your passport, a signed cover letter to the Director-General, a hotel booking and a copy of your return air ticket.

What if I am visiting a friend or relative?

Apply as an ordinary visitor. Your host writes a signed cover letter to the Director-General with their full physical address and phone number, and you add your return ticket and proof of the host’s status.

Can I use the KAZA UNIVISA?

The KAZA UNIVISA covers Zambia and Zimbabwe for up to 30 days and costs US$50, but only for eligible nationalities. Check the department’s eligibility list before choosing it.

What must I carry when I travel?

Bring the approval letter and payment receipt, plus a valid return air ticket if arriving by air. Approval-letter holders can enter through any Zambian port of entry.

Can children be added?

Applicants under 16 cannot apply alone. If they travel with an adult, add them to the adult’s application.

Is there an official approval rate for Pakistanis?

No. Zambia does not publish an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants.
