Summary

eVisa
Visa type
Ghana eVisa (tourist B2 or business B1), or a visa from a Ghana mission abroad
Stay limit
eVisa: single entry, valid 90 days from issue, with a stay of up to 60 days set by the immigration officer on arrival. Visas from Ghana missions abroad cover single or multiple journeys, as stated on the visa

Pakistani passport holders can apply online for a Ghana eVisa before they travel. Pakistan is not on the Ghana Immigration Service list of visa-exempt countries, and the official eVisa eligibility checker shows "eVisa required" for Pakistani nationals and says they can apply online. The easiest route for most visitors is the online Ghana eVisa for tourism or business: it costs US$260 with standard processing, is valid for 90 days from issue for one entry, and allows a stay of up to 60 days, set by the officer at the border. You can also apply at a Ghana mission abroad. Please do not plan around an Emergency Entry Visa on arrival, which is only granted case by case and costs US$200.

Ghana is one of West Africa's most welcoming countries, with Accra's busy markets and beaches, the castles of Cape Coast and Elmina, Kumasi's Ashanti heritage and the canopy walkway at Kakum National Park. Pakistan is not on the Ghana Immigration Service list of visa-exempt countries, so you need a visa before you travel. The good news is that you no longer have to find a Ghanaian mission to get one.

The official Ghana eVisa portal, run by the Ghana Immigration Service together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lets you apply online for a tourist (B2) or business (B1) visa. Its eligibility checker shows "eVisa required" for Pakistani nationals and points them to the online application; a visa from a Ghana mission abroad remains an alternative. Online, you register with an email address, fill in your passport and travel details, upload your photo and documents, pay the fee and wait for the decision by email.

The eVisa fee is a flat rate for every nationality. The applicant guide lists US$260 for standard processing within 96 hours, US$338 for priority within 48 hours and US$442 for express within 5 hours, and fees are generally not refunded. Ghana currently issues single-entry eVisas only. Each one is valid for 90 days from issue, so you must enter within that window, and the immigration officer at the airport sets your stay, up to a maximum of 60 days. Do not apply too early, or the eVisa may expire before your trip.

Get your papers ready before you start, because applications cannot be edited or withdrawn after submission. You need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your departure from Ghana with three blank pages, a recent colour photo on a light background, a confirmed return ticket, accommodation proof that covers the whole trip and, for tourists, bank or credit card statements for the last three months. Business visitors also need a signed invitation from the host company, its registration papers and tax clearance certificate. A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is required on entry and may be checked at the airport.

Ghana does not publish an official approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants. If the portal sends a request for information, you have three days to reply through your dashboard, so watch your email closely after you apply. Do not count on an Emergency Entry Visa at the airport: it is only granted in specific cases and costs US$200 on the official fee table. If you need more time once you are in Ghana, ask the Ghana Immigration Service for an extension before your permitted stay runs out.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Ghana?

Yes, but you can apply online. Pakistan is not on the Ghana Immigration Service list of visa-exempt countries, and the official eVisa eligibility checker shows "eVisa required" for Pakistani nationals and says they can apply online. The Ghana eVisa is the main route, and a visa from a Ghana mission abroad is the other option. Get your visa before you fly.

Can Pakistanis apply for the Ghana eVisa online?

Yes. The official Ghana eVisa portal, run by the Ghana Immigration Service with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accepts tourist (B2) and business (B1) applications. You register with your email, upload your documents, pay online and receive the eVisa by email.

How much does the Ghana eVisa cost?

The applicant guide lists US$260 for standard processing (96 hours), US$338 for priority (48 hours) and US$442 for express (5 hours). The fee is the same for every nationality and is generally not refundable.

How long can I stay in Ghana on an eVisa?

The eVisa is single entry and valid for 90 days from the date it is issued, so you must enter within that window. On arrival, the immigration officer sets your stay, up to a maximum of 60 days.

Is a yellow fever certificate required for Ghana?

Yes. The Ghana Immigration Service says a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry and may be checked at the port of entry. Travellers without one may be sent to airport health officials, including for vaccination.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Ghana?

Only in specific cases. An Emergency Entry Visa or visa on arrival can be granted under the Immigration Regulations and needs an application letter to the Comptroller-General with supporting documents. The Ghana Immigration Service fee table lists it at US$200, so apply for your visa in advance.

Do I need a visa to transit through Accra?

Not if you stay airside with your bags checked through. If you have to collect luggage and check in again, you need a transit visa valid for 48 hours. The transit visa page quotes US$65 or the cedi equivalent, while the current fee table lists a transit permit at US$50, so confirm the amount with the Ghana Immigration Service.

Can I extend my stay in Ghana?

Extensions are handled by the Ghana Immigration Service in Ghana. Its fee table lists the extension of a visitor's permit at GH¢65 per month for other nationals, and a penalty of GH¢300 per month for an expired visitor's permit, so apply before your permitted stay ends.

What if my eVisa application needs more documents?

You will receive a request for information on your dashboard. You have 3 days to respond, after which the application is assessed on what you have already provided. Applications cannot be edited or withdrawn once submitted, so check everything first.
