Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Taiwan, and the rules are stricter than for most visitors. Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs lists Pakistan among its "designated countries", whose nationals may apply for a visitor visa only for set purposes: an official invitation from a Taiwan government agency, an international religious, sporting or cultural event held by an organisation in Taiwan, visiting a spouse, a direct-line relative such as a parent or child, or a sibling living legally in Taiwan, business, reporting for duty as crew, or medical treatment. General sightseeing is not on that list. Applications are reviewed in person at a Taiwan overseas mission, which interviews the applicant and may ask a sponsor in Taiwan for a guarantee. The fee is US$50 for a single entry.
Taipei 101, the night markets of Shilin and Raohe, the marble cliffs of Taroko Gorge and the tea hills of Alishan attract visitors from across Asia. For Pakistani passport holders, though, Taiwan is one of the harder places to get into. You need a visitor visa before you travel, and Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs puts Pakistan on its list of "designated countries", which comes with extra conditions and a narrower set of reasons you are allowed to visit.
Designated-country nationals can apply only for specific purposes: an official invitation from a Taiwan government agency, an international religious, sporting or cultural event run by an organisation in Taiwan, visiting a spouse, a direct-line relative such as a parent or child, or a sibling who lives there legally, business, joining a ship or aircraft as crew, or medical treatment. Business visitors can bring their spouse and children. A plain holiday is not one of the accepted reasons, so check that your trip fits a category before you prepare anything.
Taiwan has no office inside Pakistan. The Bureau's consular district pages list the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Saudi Arabia as covering Pakistan, and the Asia Pacific page also names the Taipei offices in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Applications are reviewed in person, and the mission interviews you before deciding. It may also ask a sponsor in Taiwan to sign a Guarantee of Sponsorship. Contact the office first to confirm where to apply, because travelling there may itself need a visa.
The basic papers are a passport valid for at least six months, the application form with two recent photos, an onward air ticket and documents proving your purpose. Anyone who has spent four weeks or more in Pakistan in the past year must also show a polio vaccination given between four weeks and one year before applying. Fees follow the Bureau's July 2026 schedule: US$50 for a single-entry visitor visa or US$100 for multiple entry, with express handling at extra cost.
Visitor visas are issued for stays of 14, 30, 60 or 90 days, and 60 or 90-day visas without a "no extension" note can be extended through the National Immigration Agency once you are in Taiwan. Taiwan does not publish an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants, and the law allows its missions to refuse a visa without explaining why. A strong, well-documented reason for the trip and a sponsor ready to vouch for you give your application the best footing.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Taiwan?
Yes. Pakistan is not on Taiwan’s visa-exempt list, and the Bureau of Consular Affairs classes it as a designated country. Pakistani passport holders need a visitor visa from a Taiwan overseas mission before they travel.
Can Pakistanis get a tourist visa for Taiwan?
Not for general sightseeing. Designated-country nationals may apply only for official invitations, international religious, sporting or cultural events held in Taiwan, visits to close relatives living there legally, business, crew duty or medical treatment.
Which Taiwan office handles visas for Pakistan?
Taiwan has no office in Pakistan. The Bureau of Consular Affairs’ consular district pages say the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Saudi Arabia covers Pakistan, and its Asia Pacific page also lists Pakistan under the Taipei offices in Hong Kong and Malaysia. Contact the office nearest to you to confirm it will accept your application before you travel to it.
How much is a Taiwan visa for Pakistanis?
US$50 (NT$1,600) for a single-entry visitor visa or US$100 (NT$3,200) for multiple entry. Express handling costs US$25 or US$50 extra, and a small cable fee applies if the mission must contact Taipei.
Will I have an interview?
Yes. For designated countries, the mission reviews the documents you submit in person and gives an interview before making the final decision.
Do I need a sponsor in Taiwan?
Often. The mission may ask your sponsor in Taiwan for a Guarantee of Sponsorship. For business trips, the sponsor can also file documents at the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Taipei, which then notifies the mission handling your case.
Do I need a polio vaccination certificate?
Yes, if you have lived in or visited Pakistan for four weeks or more in the past year. The Bureau, following World Health Organization advice, asks for proof of oral or inactivated polio vaccine given between four weeks and one year before you submit the application.
How long can I stay in Taiwan?
Visitor visas allow 14, 30, 60 or 90 days, as printed on the visa. If you get 60 or 90 days and the visa does not say "no extension", you can ask the National Immigration Agency in Taiwan for an extension.
Can I visit my husband or parents who live in Taiwan?
Yes, that is one of the permitted purposes. Bring proof of their legal residence in Taiwan and of your relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate, and expect the mission to interview you.
Will I be told why my visa was refused?
Not necessarily. Article 12 of Taiwan’s Statute Governing Issuance of ROC Visas in Foreign Passports says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its missions do not have to give a reason for refusing a visa.
