Somalia's Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) launched the Electronic Visa system, known as the Electronic Travel Authorisation System (E-Visa/ETAS), on 1 September 2025. From that date all foreign nationals wishing to travel to Somalia must apply for their entry authorisation online, before the journey, through the official portal at etas.gov.so. Pakistani passport holders therefore apply online and travel only once the authorisation has been approved.
Somalia sits on the Horn of Africa with the longest coastline in mainland Africa, facing the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Mogadishu, the capital, is known for its white-sand Lido Beach and old Hamarweyne quarter, and the country's links with Pakistan run through trade, education and long-standing ties between their peoples.
Pakistani passport holders need advance permission to enter Somalia. On 1 September 2025 the Immigration and Citizenship Agency launched the Electronic Travel Authorisation System, called E-Visa/ETAS, and from that date all foreign nationals must apply online before travelling.
Applications go through the official portal at etas.gov.so. You enter your details, upload the documents requested and receive the authorisation electronically. The Agency says the change replaces slower paper procedures and lets officials review each request before the traveller arrives.
The Agency lists a passport with at least six months of validity, a completed application form and supporting documents that depend on the visa type. It does not publish the fee or a fixed processing time, so check both on the portal and apply well ahead of your travel date.
Keep a copy of your approved authorisation for presentation on arrival, and ignore unofficial websites and agents that copy the Somali visa design. Anyone travelling for work or long-term residence needs a separate permit, and every visitor should read current travel advice before booking.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Somalia?
Yes. Since 1 September 2025 all foreign nationals must apply online for an entry authorisation through Somalia's E-Visa/ETAS system before they travel. Pakistani passport holders are included in that rule.
Where do I apply?
On the official portal etas.gov.so. The Immigration and Citizenship Agency says applicants complete their details there, upload the required documents and receive their authorisation electronically.
Can I still get a visa on arrival in Mogadishu?
Plan on applying in advance. The Agency explains that under the new arrangement travellers complete their application before departure rather than on arrival, so that each request is reviewed before the journey.
How much does the Somalia e-visa cost?
The Agency's announcement and services pages do not state the fee. The amount appears on etas.gov.so during the application, so confirm it there before paying.
How long must my passport be valid?
At least six months. The services page lists a valid passport with a minimum of six months' validity among the visa requirements.
What documents will I need?
A valid passport, a completed visa application form and supporting documents that depend on the visa type. Business travellers, for example, should expect to show the purpose of the trip, while tourists should keep return travel and accommodation details ready.
How long does approval take?
No fixed time is published. Apply well ahead of your travel dates, as the Agency recommends, and do not book non-refundable travel until the authorisation is approved.
Do I need to print the approval?
The Agency asks visitors to keep a copy of the approved authorisation for presentation on arrival. A printed copy plus a saved copy on your phone is a sensible choice.
Are there single and multiple entry visas?
Yes. The Agency lists single and multiple entry visas among its services, along with visa extensions for lawful visitors and business and work visa processing.
Can I extend my stay once I am in Somalia?
The Agency offers visa extensions for lawful visitors. Contact it in Mogadishu before your permission expires rather than staying beyond it.
I want to work in Somalia. Is the e-visa enough?
No. Work permits and residence permits are separate services handled by the Agency. Ask your employer to confirm the correct permit before you travel.
How do I avoid fake visa websites?
Use only etas.gov.so and official messages from the Immigration and Citizenship Agency. The Agency itself warns travellers to be cautious of unofficial websites and agents.
How can I contact the Immigration and Citizenship Agency?
The Agency is based at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu. It lists info@immigration.gov.so and +252 61 0555001, and its offices work Saturday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Is it safe to travel to Somalia now?
Entry rules and security are separate questions. Read Pakistan's and other governments' current travel advice before booking, and keep your plans flexible, as conditions can change at short notice.
Is there an official refusal rate?
No. Somalia does not publish visa refusal statistics for Pakistani applicants.
