Summary
- Visa type
- Short-stay Caribbean visa (Kingdom of the Netherlands)
- Stay limit
- Up to 90 consecutive days in any 180-day period
- Entries
- Single or multiple
Sint Maarten, the Dutch half of the island shared with French Saint-Martin, uses the Caribbean visa system of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Pakistani nationals do not appear on its visa-free list and must get that visa in advance through the VFS centres in Pakistan. Visitors may remain up to 90 consecutive days within 180 days. Unlike for the other islands, a refusal for Sint Maarten cannot be challenged by objection. Holding a visa for French Saint-Martin opens the Dutch side only, not the rest of the Dutch Caribbean.
Sint Maarten is the southern, Dutch half of a small island it shares with French Saint-Martin. Visitors know it for jets skimming Maho Beach, duty-free shopping on Philipsburg's Front Street, the curve of Great Bay and quieter coves like Guana Bay. Pakistanis need to plan the paperwork early.
As a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sint Maarten relies on Dutch consular services. Pakistan is not on the exempt list, so travellers book a slot at VFS in Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi and lodge the Caribbean visa application face to face.
Some documents make the visa unnecessary: a Schengen visa with several entries or Schengen residence, a British or Irish multi-entry visa or residence, American or Canadian permanent residence, or residence in French Saint-Martin. American tourist visas do not count for Pakistanis.
Dutch authorities charge €80 for the visa, plus the visa centre's fee. Prepare your salary certificate or business papers, three months of payslips or bank statements, all-night bookings, a flight reservation and health insurance worth US$15,000 or more. Decisions usually take up to 15 calendar days.
Stays may last 90 days within 180. Remember two quirks: a Sint Maarten refusal has no objection route, and a visa for the French side lets you onto the Dutch side but no further across the Dutch Caribbean.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Sint Maarten?
Yes. Unless you qualify for an exemption, Pakistani travellers need the Caribbean visa issued by the Netherlands before flying to Princess Juliana International Airport.
Which papers let me enter without that visa?
A Schengen visa allowing multiple entries or a Schengen residence card; a British or Irish multi-entry visa or residence; permanent residence in America or Canada; or a residence permit or proof of return for French Saint-Martin.
Can I use my American B1/B2 visa?
No. The Dutch rule accepting US or Canadian visas applies only to listed countries such as India, Bolivia and the Dominican Republic, and Pakistan is not listed.
What is the visa fee?
The Netherlands charges €80 for a Caribbean visa applied for in Pakistan. The visa centre's service charge comes on top.
How long can I stay?
Up to 90 days in a row within any 180-day period.
Can I cross to the French side, Saint-Martin?
Yes, overland from Sint Maarten. Bring a confirmed hotel reservation, and also a French visa if your nationality requires one for Saint-Martin.
What if I have a visa for French Saint-Martin only?
It covers entry to Dutch Sint Maarten as well, but not Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Saba or St Eustatius.
Can I object if I am refused?
No. NetherlandsWorldwide states that a refused Sint Maarten visa cannot be challenged by objection. You may reapply with a stronger file.
Does a same-day connection require a visa?
No, provided you transit the airport on the same calendar day with an onward ticket.
Is a cruise call different?
Passengers on a ship docked for up to 48 hours in Philipsburg need no visa.
Do I need to buy my flight before applying?
No. A reservation showing your planned travel is enough.
Can children apply by post?
No. Minors attend in person as well, and those travelling without both parents need a birth certificate extract and a consent form.
Can I earn money while there?
Not on a visitor visa. Contact the Sint Maarten authorities about a work permit.
Can I hop to Saba or St Eustatius?
Yes. The visa covers all six Dutch Caribbean islands, each with its own stay rules.
I visit family on the island every year. Is there an easier option?
Adults with ties on the islands who expect several trips within 4 years can join the Caribbean Carpet Programme. Only the first application needs a personal visit, flight and hotel proof are dropped, files get priority and visas can last 1 to 4 years.
Is there an entry check even with a visa?
Yes. Immigration officers on arrival decide on admission, so keep your bookings, proof of funds and insurance papers in your hand luggage.
Are Sint Maarten refusal figures published?
No official approval or refusal data exist for Pakistani applicants.
