Sierra Leone's visa on arrival policy, in force since 5 September 2019, covers citizens of Commonwealth member countries, which includes Pakistan. The Sierra Leone Immigration Department lists Pakistan among the non-African Union countries that pay US$80, and asks visitors to apply and pay online through the eVisa system first, then collect the visa at the point of entry. It is for tourism, business and family visits only, valid for one month and one entry.
Sierra Leone lies on the Atlantic coast of West Africa between Guinea and Liberia. Freetown, the capital, sits on a hilly peninsula fringed by beaches such as River No. 2 and Tokeh, and visitors head out to the Banana Islands, Tiwai Island's rainforest and the Tacugama chimpanzee sanctuary.
Pakistani passport holders can get a visa on arrival. A government policy in force since 5 September 2019 extends it to citizens of Commonwealth member countries, and the Immigration Department lists Pakistan by name among the non-African Union countries that pay US$80.
The process starts online. You apply and pay through the official eVisa system, and once approved you receive an application ID. Present that ID and the same passport at immigration, and the officers print and issue the eVisa before you pass through border control.
The visa is valid for one month and one entry, and can be extended once inside the country. It is collected at Freetown International Airport in Lungi or at the Jendema and Gbalamuya land crossings from Liberia and Guinea.
It is meant for visitors only: tourism, business meetings, religious or academic visits and seeing family and friends. Anyone going to work, study or live with family as a dependant must apply at a Sierra Leone embassy or High Commission before departure.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Sierra Leone?
Yes, but it is available on arrival. Pakistan is on the Immigration Department list of non-African Union countries that can get a visa on arrival, and the National Tourist Board notice covers all Commonwealth citizens.
How much is the visa on arrival?
US$80 for Pakistani passport holders, the rate set for non-African Union nationals. African Union nationals pay US$25.
Do I need to apply online first?
Yes. The Immigration Department asks visitors to apply and pay through the Sierra Leone eVisa system. After approval you receive an application ID, which you present at immigration to have the eVisa printed.
Where can I collect it?
At Freetown International Airport in Lungi, at Jendema on the border with Liberia, or at Gbalamuya on the border with Guinea.
How long can I stay?
The visa on arrival is valid for one month. It can be extended once at the Immigration Department after you arrive.
Can I leave and come back on the same visa?
No. It allows only one entry, so leaving the country ends it.
Can I work or study on this visa?
No. It covers tourism, business, religious, academic and family visits only. For work, study or joining family as a dependant, apply at the nearest Sierra Leone embassy or High Commission before travelling.
Must I use the same passport I applied with?
Yes. The Immigration Department says you must carry the passport used for the online application.
When did this policy start?
The National Tourist Board notice says the visa on arrival policy took effect on 5 September 2019 for UK, EU, US, Commonwealth, Gulf and BRICS citizens, among others.
Do ECOWAS travellers pay?
No. ECOWAS citizens enter visa-free, and nationals of a few countries with reciprocal agreements, such as Malaysia and Sri Lanka, are not charged.
What should I carry when I land?
Bring your passport, the application ID from the eVisa system and proof of payment. A return or onward ticket and your hotel or host address are useful if the officer asks about your plans.
Can I get the visa at the Freetown seaport or another border post?
The Immigration Department names only three entry points for the visa on arrival: Freetown International Airport at Lungi, Jendema and Gbalamuya. If you plan to enter elsewhere, arrange a visa through an embassy in advance.
Is a multiple-entry visa possible?
Not through the visa on arrival, which is single entry only. If you expect to travel in and out several times, ask a Sierra Leone embassy or High Commission which visa type suits you before you go.
Is there an official refusal rate?
No. Sierra Leone does not publish approval or refusal statistics for Pakistani visitors.
