Senegal's Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs lists the nationalities that can visit for less than three months without a visa, and Pakistan is not on that list. The ministry states that nationals of any country not listed need a visa to enter Senegal, so Pakistani passport holders must obtain one from a Senegalese embassy or consulate before travelling.
Senegal sits on the westernmost tip of mainland Africa, facing the Atlantic. Dakar, the capital, is a busy port and cultural centre, and travellers come for Gorée Island and its history, the old colonial town of Saint-Louis, the pink waters of Lake Retba and the national parks of the Saloum delta and Niokolo-Koba.
Entry rules are published by the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs. It names the countries whose citizens can visit for less than three months without a visa, grouped into African, European and other countries. Pakistan does not appear on any of these lists.
The ministry is explicit about everyone else: if your country is not mentioned, you need a visa to enter Senegal. Pakistani passport holders therefore need to obtain a visa in advance from a Senegalese embassy or consulate, and holders of refugee travel documents need one too.
The ministry's list of missions shows Senegalese embassies across the wider region, such as New Delhi, Tehran, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, along with an honorary consulate in Karachi. Contact the mission you plan to use for its application form, document list, fee and processing time, none of which appear on the ministry's visitor page.
Visa-exempt visitors must carry a passport valid for at least six months, which is a sensible minimum for Pakistani travellers too. Because some neighbours on the exempt list, including India, enter without a visa, groups travelling together should check the rule for each passport before booking flights to Dakar.
Checklist
Document requirements
- Pakistani passport (the ministry asks visa-exempt visitors for at least six months' validity; use the same standard)
- Visa issued in advance by a Senegalese embassy or consulate
- Application form and supporting documents as required by the issuing mission
- Visa fee payable to the issuing mission
Pakistan is not among the African, European or other countries whose nationals are exempt for stays under three months. The exempt list does include some Asian countries, such as India, China, Malaysia and Singapore, as well as the United Arab Emirates, so check the rules for your own passport rather than a travel companion's. Refugee travel document holders also need a visa.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Senegal?
Yes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the countries whose citizens can visit for under three months without a visa. Pakistan is not on it, and the ministry says nationals of unlisted countries need a visa.
Where do I apply?
At a Senegalese embassy or consulate. The ministry's list of missions abroad shows embassies in the region, including New Delhi, Tehran, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, and an honorary consulate in Karachi.
Is there an e-visa or a visa on arrival?
The ministry's visitor page describes only two situations: visa-free entry for the listed nationalities and a visa for everyone else. It does not mention an e-visa or a visa on arrival for Pakistanis, so arrange the visa before you fly.
How much does the visa cost?
The ministry does not publish a fee on its visitor page. The amount is set by the issuing embassy or consulate, so ask the mission when you apply.
How long must my passport be valid?
Visa-exempt visitors need a passport valid for at least six months. Use the same standard for a Pakistani passport, and confirm any extra requirement with the issuing mission.
When did the current rules start?
The ministry says Senegal's entry visa arrangements changed on 1 May 2015, when the present list of exempt nationalities took effect for stays of less than three months.
Can I travel visa-free with a refugee travel document?
No. The ministry states that holders of a refugee travel document also need a visa to enter Senegal, whatever their country of residence.
My travel companion is Indian. Do we need the same visa?
Not necessarily. India is on Senegal's visa-exempt list for short stays, while Pakistan is not, so each traveller should follow the rule for their own passport.
How long can I stay?
The length of stay is set on the visa issued by the embassy or consulate. The three-month visa-free window applies only to the exempt nationalities, not to Pakistani passport holders.
Which countries are exempt from the visa?
In Africa they include Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and others in the region. Most EU countries and the UK are exempt, as are Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the UAE and the United States.
I live in the UAE. Does my residence there exempt me?
No. The ministry frames the exemption by nationality: it applies if you are a national of a listed country. A Pakistani citizen living in the Gulf still needs a visa, though you may find it convenient to apply at the Senegalese embassy in Abu Dhabi or Riyadh.
Is there an official refusal rate?
No. Senegal does not publish approval or refusal statistics for visas issued to Pakistani applicants.
