As stated on the e-visa decision

Pakistan is on the St Helena Immigration Service list of passports whose holders must obtain an e-visa in advance before travelling to St Helena. There is no visa on arrival at St Helena Airport. Applications are made online through the official e-visa portal; the FAQ says there is no charge and that most decisions are made within 21 days.

St Helena is one of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic known for Jamestown and Jacob's Ladder, Napoleon's exile home at Longwood, whale sharks offshore and Jonathan, the ancient giant tortoise at Plantation House. Pakistani travellers can visit, but only with an e-visa arranged beforehand.

The St Helena Immigration Service publishes a list of passports whose holders must apply in advance, and Pakistan is on it alongside India, Bangladesh, Nepal and many others. The rule is firm: there is no visa on arrival at St Helena Airport, so set aside time for the online application before booking anything you cannot change.

The whole process runs on the government's own e-visa portal. You create an application, upload a scanned photograph and supporting papers, and wait for a decision. The official FAQ says the application itself is free, and the service aims to decide nine in ten cases within 21 days and every case within six weeks.

Expect a thorough document list for a stay of 48 hours or more: every page of your passport, older passports, a police certificate, bank statements, a letter from your employer or college, an onward itinerary, accommodation details and insurance. Because medical care on the island is limited, the insurance must clearly cover evacuation.

Admission on arrival is handled under the island's entry permit system, with a Short-term Entry Permit for stays of up to 183 days. Access is by air or by sea into Jamestown, and Ascension Island has separate rules of its own, so check both territories if your trip includes the two.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Pakistani passport with at least six months validity on arrival (all pages scanned for the application)
  • Scanned photograph meeting the e-visa photo guidance (45 mm x 35 mm)
  • Onward or return travel itinerary
  • Details of where you will stay on the island
  • Medical or travel insurance that covers treatment and medical evacuation
  • Police certificate
  • Bank statements or other proof of sufficient funds (plus sponsor documents if someone else pays)
  • Employer or education letter, or business registration if self-employed
  • Previous passports and travel documents
  • Proof of legal residence if you live outside Pakistan

Pakistan is named on the official visa-required list. Visitors staying 48 hours or more must upload the full supporting-document set; landside transits under 48 hours need a shorter set (itinerary, accommodation and insurance).

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for St Helena?

Yes. Pakistan is on the official list of passports that require an e-visa, applied for in advance, to travel to St Helena.

Can I get a visa when I land?

No. The St Helena Immigration Service states that there is no visa on arrival facility at St Helena Airport, so the e-visa must be granted before you set off.

How much does the St Helena e-visa cost?

According to the official FAQ, there is no cost for an e-visa application.

How long does a decision take?

The service aims to decide 90% of applications within 21 days and all of them within six weeks. Missing documents slow things down.

What documents do I upload?

A scanned photo, all pages of your current passport, previous passports, a police certificate, proof of funds, your onward itinerary, accommodation details, insurance covering medical evacuation, and evidence of your job or studies.

Why is insurance so important?

Medical facilities on the island are limited. The FAQ says evacuation can cost over £100,000, and insurance papers may be checked on arrival, so the policy should say plainly that it covers evacuation.

How long can a visitor stay?

The government entry page describes a Short-term Entry Permit for stays of up to 183 days. Longer stays need a Long-term Entry Permit.

Do I need an e-visa just to change planes?

Not if you stay airside, which usually means arriving and leaving on the same day and aircraft. If you pass through border control at the airport or Jamestown seaport, you need one.

Does a criminal record matter?

Yes. The FAQ says historic criminality will generally require an e-visa application whatever passport you hold, and it must be declared.

Will someone check my health?

The application asks you to declare certain contagious diseases listed in the FAQ, such as tuberculosis and yellow fever.

Is Ascension Island covered by the same e-visa?

No. Ascension has its own immigration rules, and the St Helena Government points visitors to the Ascension Island Government website.

Is my fee refunded if I am refused?

The terms state that the service is for processing and a decision, not a guaranteed visa, and that fees are not refunded.

Is there an official refusal rate?

No. St Helena does not publish e-visa approval or refusal figures by nationality.
