Summary

Embassy visa required
Visa type
Peruvian tourist visa from a Peruvian consular office
Stay limit
Up to 183 calendar days, not extendable, within 12 months of the visa being issued; the immigration officer sets your stay when stamping your passport

Peru asks Pakistani passport holders for a tourist visa before travel. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs table for ordinary passports marks Pakistan as not exempt for tourism, business or short transit. You apply at a Peruvian consular office, and the consul reviews each case and may call you for an interview. The fee is US$30 under Peru's consular fee schedule and is not refunded if you are refused. One official exception is worth knowing: under Supreme Decree 061-2016-RE, nationals of visa-requiring countries who hold permanent residence in Colombia, Chile or Mexico can enter Peru as tourists without a visa.

Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Lima's famous food scene and the Amazon around Iquitos make Peru a dream trip for many Pakistani travellers. Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes a table of visa rules for ordinary passports, and it marks Pakistan as not exempt from the tourist visa, the business visa or even the two-day transit permission. So you need a Peruvian visa before you fly, even if you are only connecting through Lima.

The Ministry's guidance says a tourist visa is requested from the Peruvian consular office in the country where you are, and some offices take applications online through the e-SAMI migration system. Peru has no consular office in Pakistan on the gob.pe list, so contact the nearest Peruvian embassy before you start to confirm which office will handle your application. Apply well before your trip, because the consul may ask for an interview or more documents.

The tourist visa allows up to 183 calendar days in total within 12 months of issue, in one visit or several, and that period cannot be extended on the visa itself. The immigration officer decides your actual stay when stamping your passport, and any extension has to be requested from Peru's National Superintendence of Migration before your permitted stay ends. Under Peru's consular fee schedule the application fee is US$30, and some missions charge the local equivalent, such as INR 3,000 in cash at the Embassy of Peru in New Delhi. The payment is not refunded if the visa is refused.

The standard checklist is short but must be complete: the DGC-005 visa form, a valid passport, a return ticket or reservation, a hotel or tour booking or an invitation letter legalised by Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two colour passport photos and proof that you can pay for the trip. The New Delhi embassy, for example, asks for bank statements even when someone else is sponsoring you, and says applications from non-Indian nationals can take about 10 more working days than the usual 7–10 working days after interview.

Peru does not publish an official approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants. If you live in Colombia, Chile or Mexico as a permanent resident, Supreme Decree 061-2016-RE lets nationals of visa-requiring countries enter Peru as tourists without a visa, so check whether that applies to you. Otherwise, keep your documents consistent, show strong ties to home, and wait for the visa before you buy non-refundable tickets.
