Summary
- Visa type
- Papua New Guinea Visitor visa (tourist class) granted by ICA before travel, applied for online or on the paper entry permit form
- Stay limit
- Usually 60 days from arrival on a single-entry Visitor visa
- Entries
- Single entry
Every foreign visitor to Papua New Guinea needs a visa, and Pakistan is not on the Immigration and Citizenship Authority’s list of nationalities eligible for a visa on arrival. A Pakistani passport holder must therefore apply and be granted a visitor visa before travelling. ICA accepts visitor applications through its electronic visa portal or with the paper Application for Entry Permit form. The tourist visa class itself carries no fee, but the eVisa fee is US$50. A visitor visa is normally a single entry for 60 days.
Papua New Guinea is one of the least-visited and most diverse countries on earth, with the Kokoda Track, the highland sing-sing festivals of Goroka and Mount Hagen, and world-class diving off Kimbe Bay. Every foreign visitor needs a visa, issued by the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA).
Some nationalities can receive that visa on arrival, but ICA’s list is short: Pacific neighbours such as Fiji, Samoa and the Solomon Islands, plus Canada, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom and a few others. Pakistan is not on it, so a Pakistani passport holder must have the visa granted before departure.
For a holiday the relevant category is the Visitor visa, under the Tourist (own itinerary), Tourist (tour package) or Visiting Relative classes. Applicants provide a request letter, a copy of the passport bio page, a travel itinerary with a confirmed return ticket and proof of being financially secure.
ICA charges no fee for these tourist classes, but the eVisa fee is US$50, paid through its online gateway or by card. Fees are not refunded if a visa is refused. The usual grant is a single entry with a stay of 60 days, and extensions cost US$150.
Processing takes up to 10 working days once everything is in order. Passports must be valid six months from the date of entry, and transit stops of under seven hours need no visa. ICA asks applicants to use only its own website, never third-party sites.
Checklist
Document requirements
- Pakistani passport valid at least six months from the date you intend to enter
- Request letter from the applicant explaining the visit
- Copy of the passport bio page
- Copy of your travel itinerary with confirmed onward or return ticket
- Evidence that you are financially secure for the trip
- For a tour package: request letter from a tour agent registered with the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority and the Investment Promotion Authority
- Application through the ICA eVisa portal, or the Application for Entry Permit paper form
- Receipt of the US$50 eVisa fee paid through the ICA online payment gateway
- Medical report or police certificate only if ICA asks for them
Pakistan is not on ICA’s visa-on-arrival list, which covers Pacific neighbours plus a few others such as Canada, Japan, Singapore, the UK and ordinary passports of the UAE. Pakistanis are also not eligible for the Easy Visitor Permit, which is reserved for visa-on-arrival nationalities, so they use the regular Tourist or Visiting Relative class.

No. Visa on arrival is limited to the countries and territories ICA lists, mainly Pacific states plus Canada, Japan, Singapore, the UK, Indonesia and the UAE. Pakistan is not included.
Which visa should a tourist choose?
The Visitor visa, in the Tourist (own itinerary) class if you travel independently, Tourist (tour package) if a registered agent organises the trip, or Visiting Relative if you are seeing family.
How much does the visa cost?
ICA lists the tourist and visiting relative visa fee as nil, plus a US$50 eVisa fee. Payment goes through ICA’s online gateway, not cash.
How long can I stay?
In most cases a Visitor visa is valid for a single entry stay of 60 days from the date of arrival.
How long does processing take?

Do I need a visa to transit Port Moresby?
Not if your transit is under 7 hours. If you must wait longer than 7 hours, ICA recommends applying for a visitor visa online.
