Summary

eVisa
Visa type
Myanmar tourist eVisa, applied for online before travel
Stay limit
28 days from the date of arrival
Entries
Single entry (approval letter valid 90 days from issue)

Pakistan is on the official list of countries whose ordinary passport holders are eligible to apply for a Myanmar tourist eVisa, published by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Pakistan is not among the visa-exempt countries, so you need the eVisa before travelling. The approval letter is valid for 90 days from issue, allows a single entry and a stay of 28 days, and can only be used at Yangon, Mandalay or Nay Pyi Taw international airports or the Kawthaung land border.

Myanmar is known for the temple plains of Bagan, the golden Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon and the floating gardens of Inle Lake. Pakistani passport holders are not visa-exempt, but they are on the official list of nationalities eligible for an online tourist eVisa.

The list is published by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and covers 100 countries, with Pakistan at number 72. Visa-free tourist entry applies only to a handful of ASEAN neighbours, so a Pakistani traveller must have an approved eVisa before boarding a flight to Myanmar.

Applications are made on the Ministry of Immigration and Population eVisa portal. You upload a colour photo taken within three months, your passport bio-data page, proof of a return ticket and a booking at a registered hotel or boat, then pay by Visa, Mastercard or JCB. The fee is non-refundable.

An acknowledgement email usually arrives within an hour of payment, and normal processing takes at least three working days. The approval letter is valid for 90 days from issue, allows a single entry and a stay of 28 days, and only passports are accepted, not travel documents.

eVisa holders may enter only through Yangon, Mandalay or Nay Pyi Taw airports or the Kawthaung land border, not by sea. Some regions are closed to foreigners, so check the restricted-area notices before booking internal travel. Travellers refused entry may be returned on the same flight.

Checklist

Document requirements

Pakistan is number 72 on the list of 100 countries eligible for the Myanmar tourist eVisa. Visa-free tourist entry is limited to Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, so Pakistanis must hold an approved eVisa.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Myanmar?

Yes. Pakistan is not visa-exempt, but Pakistani ordinary passport holders are on the official list of countries eligible to apply for a tourist eVisa.

How do I apply for the Myanmar eVisa?

Online through the Ministry of Immigration and Population eVisa portal. Upload a recent colour photo, your passport bio page, proof of a return ticket and a hotel booking, then pay by Visa, Mastercard or JCB card.

How much is the Myanmar eVisa?

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism page does not publish the amount. Check it on the official eVisa portal before you pay, and remember the fee is non-refundable.

How long can I stay?

28 days from the date of arrival in Myanmar.

How long is the approval letter valid?

90 days from the date of issue. If it has expired when you arrive, entry will be denied.

Can I enter more than once?

No. The tourist eVisa is valid for a single entry, and re-entry needs a new visa.

Where can I enter with an eVisa?

Only at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports or the Kawthaung international land border checkpoint. The eVisa cannot be used at seaports.

How long does processing take?

At least 3 working days, Myanmar time, counted from the acknowledgement email that follows a successful payment.

Do I have to stay in a hotel?

Yes. Tourists must stay in registered hotels, motels, inns, guest houses or resorts, or on a boat, and proof of the booking is required with the application.

Can I travel anywhere in Myanmar?

No. There are restricted areas for foreigners and tourists. Check the Ministry of Immigration and Population and Ministry of Hotels and Tourism notices before planning your route.

What if I arrive by cruise ship?

The eVisa does not work for seaport arrivals. Cruise passengers should ask their tour agent about a pre-arranged visa on arrival.

What if my children travel on my passport?

Children under seven who are on the same passport must be listed in the minor section of the application form, with their name and date of birth.

What happens if entry is refused?

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism says that if the decision is not to allow entry, you may be returned on the same flight. Carry your hotel booking and return ticket to show the officer.

Can I use a travel document instead of a passport?

No. Only passports are eligible. An eVisa obtained with a travel document will lead to refusal of entry at the immigration checkpoint.

Is there an official approval rate for Pakistanis?

No. Myanmar does not publish an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants.
