The official Mozambique eVisa and eTA portal of the Serviço Nacional de Migração says travellers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia are not allowed to apply for a visa through the eVisa portal and must request a visa at the nearest embassy. Pakistan is also absent from the visa-exempt and eTA country lists on the same portal, so a Pakistani passport holder needs a visa issued by a Mozambican diplomatic mission before travelling.

Mozambique, on Africa’s south-eastern coast, is known for the Bazaruto Archipelago, the old stone town of Ilha de Moçambique, Gorongosa National Park and long Indian Ocean beaches. Pakistani passport holders need a visa from an embassy before travelling.

Mozambique’s national migration service, the Serviço Nacional de Migração, runs an official eVisa and eTA portal. It lists visa-exempt countries, those that can use an electronic travel authorisation, and those that must apply for a full eVisa.

The same portal names six countries whose travellers cannot apply online at all: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia. They are told to request a visa at the nearest embassy. Pakistan is not on the exempt or eTA lists either.

So the only route is a Mozambican embassy or high commission. Ask the mission for its form, document list and processing time. Expect to need passport photographs, a return ticket, a hotel booking or invitation, and proof of funds.

The embassy visa fee for Pakistanis is not published on the official portal, so confirm it with the mission. Tourist visas cover stays of 90 days or less, but the period printed on your visa is the one that applies.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Pakistani passport valid for the whole stay
  • Completed visa application form from the Mozambican embassy or high commission where you apply
  • Passport photographs
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Hotel booking or invitation from your host in Mozambique
  • Proof of funds for the stay
  • Visa fee as set by the mission

Pakistan is one of six countries (with Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia) that the official portal excludes from the online eVisa, so the embassy route is the only one.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Mozambique?

Yes. Pakistan is not visa-exempt, and the official portal says Pakistani travellers must request a visa at the nearest embassy.

Can Pakistanis use the Mozambique eVisa?

No. The Serviço Nacional de Migração portal lists Pakistan among six countries whose travellers are not allowed to apply through the eVisa portal.

Which other countries are excluded from the eVisa?

Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia, together with Pakistan.

Can I get an eTA instead?

No. The eTA list covers countries such as Belgium, Canada, China and France. Pakistan is not on it.

Where do I apply?

At the nearest Mozambican embassy or high commission. Ask the mission for its application form, document list and fee.

How much does the visa cost?

The fee for embassy visas is not published on the official portal. Check the current fee with the mission before you apply.

How long can tourists stay?

The portal describes tourist visas for stays of 90 days or less. The period granted on your embassy visa is what counts.

What other visa types exist?

The portal lists tourist, business, investment, sports and culture, crew, humanitarian and oil and gas business categories.

Can I get a visa on arrival?

The official portal directs Pakistani travellers to apply at an embassy before travel, so do not rely on getting a visa at the border.

What should I carry when I travel?

Your passport with the embassy visa, your return ticket, accommodation details and proof of funds.

Is the evisa.gov.mz site official?

Yes. It is the portal of the Serviço Nacional de Migração, Mozambique’s national migration service, on a government domain.

Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?

No. Mozambique does not publish visa refusal figures by nationality.

Why does the portal matter if I cannot use it?

It is the official place where Mozambique publishes which nationalities may use the eVisa, eTA or visa exemption. Checking it before you travel confirms whether Pakistan’s status has changed.

Can neighbouring-country passport holders enter visa-free?

Yes. The portal lists visa exemptions for countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and Cabo Verde, mostly for 30 or 90 days. These do not apply to a Pakistani passport, even if you live in one of those countries.

What is the investment visa?

The portal describes it as a visa for people investing in a project worth US$500 thousand or more. Pakistani investors would still apply through an embassy, not the online portal.

I hold dual nationality. Which passport counts?

The official portal tells applicants to use the passport they will travel with. If your other passport is from a country allowed to use the eVisa or eTA, you may be able to apply online with that passport instead.

Is a business trip covered by a business visa?

The portal describes business visas for business, research, meetings or conferences lasting 90 days or less. Ask the embassy which category fits your trip.
