The FSM Embassy states that no visa is required to visit the Federated States of Micronesia: a valid passport, sufficient funds and proof of onward travel are enough for entry for 30 days. FSM law (Title 50, section 103, as amended by Public Law 10-14) says a permit is not required for a visit of thirty days or less. Pakistani passport holders are covered by this general rule. Visits longer than 30 days need an entry permit, which may extend the stay by up to 60 more days.

The Federated States of Micronesia spreads across more than 600 islands in the western Pacific, from the stone ruins of Nan Madol on Pohnpei to the wreck-diving lagoon of Chuuk and the stone money of Yap. Pakistani passport holders can visit for up to 30 days without a visa.

The FSM Embassy answers the question directly: no visa is required, and a valid passport, sufficient funds and proof of onward travel are enough for a 30-day entry. The national code, as amended by Public Law 10-14, says a permit is not required for any visit of thirty days or less.

The rule is general. Only citizens of the United States, Palau and the Marshall Islands get special treatment, so a Pakistani traveller follows the same steps as most other visitors: fill in the CIQ form from the airline and present it with your passport on arrival.

Your passport must stay valid for at least 120 days after you enter, and you need a return or onward ticket to somewhere you are allowed to go. Each state has its own immigration desk, so expect a check at every island you fly into.

If you plan to stay beyond 30 days, apply for an entry permit, which can add up to 60 more days. Fees for these permits are set under Public Law 10-14, so confirm the amount with the FSM Embassy or immigration office first.

  • Completed Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) form, supplied by the airline

Fees

  • Visa fee

    No visa fee

No visa fee applies for visits of 30 days or less, because the Federated States of Micronesia does not require a permit for such visits. Check the current fee for an entry permit if you plan to stay longer, since Public Law 10-14 lets the President set permit fees.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Micronesia?

No. The FSM Embassy says no visa is needed: a valid passport, sufficient funds and proof of onward travel are enough for a 30-day visit.

How long can I stay without a permit?

Up to 30 days. FSM law says a permit is not required for a visit of thirty days or less.

What if I want to stay longer?

You need an entry permit. For most non-citizens it can extend the visit by up to 60 additional days.

How long must my passport be valid?

At least 120 days beyond the date you enter the FSM, according to the FSM Visitors Board.

Do I need a return ticket?

Yes. You must show a return or onward ticket to a place your passport allows you to enter. The Chief of Immigration may accept other proof instead.

What form do I fill in?

The Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) form, which the airline gives you before arrival.

Do I go through immigration more than once?

Yes. Each of the four states, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap and Kosrae, has its own customs and immigration officers, so you clear entry at each island stop.

Is there a fee to enter?

No fee applies to a visit of 30 days or less. Fees for longer-stay entry permits are set by the President under Public Law 10-14.

Do I need vaccinations?

Not unless you arrive from an infected area, according to the FSM Visitors Board.

Who gets longer stays?

Citizens of the United States, Palau and the Marshall Islands can be issued permits for up to 365 days. That does not apply to Pakistanis.

Can I bring plants or animals?

Only with prior approval, and animals must be quarantined. Controlled substances and weapons are prohibited.

Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?

No. The FSM does not publish entry refusal figures by nationality.

Can I show something other than a ticket?

At the discretion of the Chief of Immigration and Labor, a visitor may present other proof that they can leave the FSM when the visit ends, instead of a return or onward ticket.

Do I need a permit to study in the FSM?

Yes. FSM law provides a separate student permit for the length of your enrolment, and non-visitors must apply for permits before arriving.

Where can I get the entry permit form?

The FSM Visitors Board links to the entry permit application on its regulations page, along with a list of FSM government offices to contact.

Does the 30-day rule apply on every island?

Yes. It is national law, so it covers Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap and Kosrae, although each state checks your documents separately.
