Pakistani citizens need a Schengen visa to visit Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein applies essentially the same entry rules as Switzerland, and a person who needs a visa applies to the Swiss representation at their place of residence. Pakistan is not among the exceptions listed by Liechtenstein’s Migration and Passport Office, so the Embassy of Switzerland in Islamabad is the competent mission. The decision is taken partly by the Swiss authorities and partly by the Liechtenstein Migration and Passport Office. Pakistan is also on the Schengen-wide airport transit visa list.

Liechtenstein is a small Alpine principality between Switzerland and Austria, with Vaduz castle, mountain trails and ski slopes. It is a member of the Schengen area, so a Pakistani tourist needs a Schengen visa to visit. Because the principality shares an open border and most entry rules with Switzerland, the application route runs through Swiss diplomatic missions.

Liechtenstein’s Migration and Passport Office states that people who need a visa apply to the Swiss representation at their place of residence. It lists only a few places where another state takes over, such as Albania, India and Malaysia; Pakistan is not among them. Pakistani residents therefore apply at the Embassy of Switzerland in Islamabad, and the decision is shared between the Swiss authorities and Liechtenstein’s office.

Start with the SEM application form and the Swiss Embassy checklist that fits your trip, whether tourist, visitor or business. Hosts can find guidance on invitation letters and sponsorship declarations from SEM. For insurance, the Embassy advises a policy valid on first entry for a set number of days, which stays valid if flights move. Fingerprints are collected from age 12 and renewed every 59 months.

The standard Schengen fee is 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged 6 to 12, and a visa centre may add a service charge. The Embassy normally decides within 15 days. Some applications must be checked with other Schengen states, adding up to 14 calendar days, so lodge early; you can apply as soon as six months before travel.

If the answer is no, you receive a standard refusal form with the reasons and have 30 days to appeal. Questions specific to the principality can go to the Migration and Passport Office at visa.apa@llv.li. Plan your trip as part of a wider Swiss itinerary if you like: apply where you will spend the most days.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Schengen visa application form from the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM)
  • Documents from the Swiss Embassy checklist for your purpose: tourist, visitor, business or other
  • Valid Pakistani passport
  • Photograph meeting ICAO standards
  • Travel medical insurance; the Embassy recommends a policy valid on first entry for 7, 14, 31, 90 or 365 days rather than fixed dates
  • Invitation letter or declaration of sponsorship from a host, where relevant
  • Fingerprints, collected every 59 months from age 12
  • Visa fee

For Pakistan there is no special arrangement: Liechtenstein lists no representing state other than Switzerland for Pakistan, so Pakistani residents apply to the Embassy of Switzerland in Islamabad. Family members of Swiss, EU or EFTA citizens may apply directly at the Embassy with a pre-booked appointment.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Liechtenstein?

Yes. Pakistani passport holders need a Schengen visa. Liechtenstein follows broadly the same entry and visa rules as Switzerland.

Where do Pakistanis apply for a Liechtenstein visa?

At the Embassy of Switzerland in Pakistan, in Islamabad. Liechtenstein’s Migration and Passport Office says visa applicants apply to the Swiss representation where they live, and Pakistan is not on its list of exceptions.

Who decides on the application?

Responsibility is shared: part of the decision lies with the Swiss authorities and part with Liechtenstein’s Migration and Passport Office.

Which form do I use?

The Schengen visa application form of the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), together with the Embassy checklist for tourist, visitor, business or other travel.

What insurance should I buy?

Medical travel insurance is required. The Swiss Embassy suggests a policy valid on first entry, for 7, 14, 31, 90 or 365 days, so it still works if your flight dates change.

How much is the visa fee?

Under the Schengen rules the fee is 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged 6 to 12. A visa centre service fee may apply on top.

How long does it take?

Usually up to 15 days. Some applications need consultation with other Schengen states, which can add up to 14 calendar days.

How early can I apply?

Up to six months before the planned journey. The Embassy recommends applying early because of possible consultations.

What can I do if my visa is refused?

The reasons are given on a standard form, and you may appeal within 30 days of receiving the refusal, following the procedure of the State Secretariat for Migration.

How do I contact Liechtenstein about a visa?

The Migration and Passport Office takes visa questions at visa.apa@llv.li or +423 236 61 41. The Swiss Embassy’s visa desk is at islamabad.visa@eda.admin.ch.

Is there an official visa approval rate for Pakistanis?

No. Neither Liechtenstein nor the Swiss Embassy publishes an approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants.
