Ordinary Pakistani passports need a visa for Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa-regime table, updated 21 August 2026, lists Pakistan as visa-free for up to 30 days on diplomatic and service passports but marks ordinary passports as "visa". Most travellers apply in person at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Islamabad after booking an online appointment, with an invitation from the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs and a fee receipt from MCB Islamic Bank. The single-entry tourist visa costs US$60 and the embassy processes files in 5 working days. The national e-visa is open to Pakistanis only for the B3 business-trip category.

Almaty's mountain setting, the modern skyline of Astana, Charyn Canyon and the long steppe roads of Central Asia are the scenes most visitors have in mind when planning Kazakhstan. Holders of an ordinary Pakistani passport need a visa before they go. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry keeps a visa-regime table, last updated on 21 August 2026, and its Pakistan row grants 30 visa-free days only to diplomatic and service passports, with ordinary passports marked "visa".

For most people that visa comes from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Islamabad, at House 31, Street 18, Sector F-6/2. Applications are taken in person only. Book an appointment on the embassy's gov.kz booking page, then arrive on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 10:30 and 12:30. Passports are returned between 16:00 and 17:00 with no booking needed. The embassy does not accept applications by post, and applicants aged 16 or over give fingerprints.

The core file is short: a signed application form, one photo sized 3.5 by 4.5 cm, a passport with at least two empty pages and validity of three months past the visa end date, and an invitation issued through Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs, identified by a visa support number your host provides. Tourist (B12) applicants add a passport copy, flight ticket, hotel reservation, six months of bank statements and travel insurance.

Fees are paid in advance at MCB Islamic Bank, and the original receipt goes into the file. A tourist visa costs US$60 for one entry or US$90 for multiple entries. A standard visa is US$80 or US$200, and a transit visa US$20 or US$90. The embassy aims to finish each case in five working days from the date the papers are handed in.

There is one online exception. The e-visa list on vmp.gov.kz, the national visa and migration portal, includes the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the B3 business-trip visa only, so a business traveller in that category can apply online instead. Tourist and private visits still go through Islamabad. Kazakhstan does not publish approval or refusal figures, so a complete file with a valid invitation is the safest approach.
