Pakistan is category C for ordinary passports in the visa classification shared by Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, as published by El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which lists no different treatment of Pakistan by Guatemala. For category C, the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración (IGM) says the application is lodged in Guatemala by a Guatemalan guarantor, through its Subdirección de Extranjería, rather than by the traveller at an embassy.

Guatemala is home to the Maya city of Tikal, Lake Atitlán ringed by volcanoes, the cobbled colonial streets of Antigua and the market at Chichicastenango. Pakistani ordinary passport holders need a visa, and it works differently from most countries.

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua share one visa classification. In the table published by El Salvador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan is category C, the consulted visa, with no separate rule for Guatemala. Only diplomatic, official and service passports are exempt.

For category C, the application is not made by you at an embassy. A Guatemalan guarantor lodges it in Guatemala with the Subdirección de Extranjería of the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración, using form IGM 01-2026 and paying US$25.

The file needs your original passport valid six months with a legalised copy, a police clearance, hotel or tour bookings or an invitation letter, and the guarantor’s certificate with income and bank evidence. Incomplete files or altered pages are not accepted.

The IGM can ask for more documents during its review and may grant a multiple-entry visa if the file supports it. A guarantor can back up to three applications at once, unless they are for one family.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Guatemala?

Yes. Pakistan is category C, the consulted visa category, for ordinary passports under the Central America-4 visa classification.

Who applies for the visa?

A Guatemalan guarantor lodges the application in Guatemala, at the Subdirección de Extranjería of the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración.

How much is the fee?

US$25.00, or the equivalent in quetzales, to lodge the application.

What does my guarantor need?

An updated guarantor certificate. Individuals add recent income proof and a bank statement for the previous month. Companies add their last tax returns showing enough capacity.

How many people can one guarantor sponsor?

No more than three tourist visa applications at the same time, unless they are members of one family with proof of the relationship.

What passport copy is needed?

A complete copy legalised by a Guatemalan notary, a certified copy from a competent authority, or a copy legalised by an official in your home country.

Do I need a police certificate?

Yes. An original clearance from Pakistan, from its embassies or consulates, or from the country where you lived in the last two years.

Is a birth certificate required?

Only if your country has no accredited diplomatic mission in Guatemala.

How do I show the purpose of the trip?

With hotel and tour bookings, or an invitation letter explaining the reason for the trip, where you will stay and how you will travel inside Guatemala.

Who should the invitation be addressed to?

The Subdirección de Extranjería of the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración.

How long must my passport be valid?

At least six months on the passport where the visa will be stamped.

Can I get a multiple-entry visa?

Possibly. The IGM reviews the documents and grants a multiple visa if the requirements are met.

Will my original documents be returned?

Documents are hole-punched for the file. Put originals in protective sleeves if you want them kept intact, and request returns under the visa regulation IGM-015-2025.

What about children?

A birth certificate, the parents’ ID copies and a written authorisation from both parents allowing the guarantor to apply.

Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?

No. Guatemala does not publish visa refusal figures by nationality.

What if I use different names on my documents?

The IGM requires legal documents from the competent authority proving that the different names identify the same person.

Can the IGM ask for more documents?

Yes. The Subdirección de Extranjería may request additional information or documents if its review finds something that needs clarifying, expanding or correcting.

Does approval guarantee a visa?

No. The IGM form states that lodging an application does not oblige the authority to grant the migration status requested.

Which rules govern the process?

The Guatemalan Visa Regulation, Agreement IGM-015-2025, approved by National Migration Authority Agreement AMN 04-2025.
