Summary
- Visa type
- French short-stay visa valid for Guadeloupe (overseas-territory visa, single-territory or DFA)
- Stay limit
- Up to 90 days in any 180-day period
- Entries
- Single or multiple, as stated on the visa
Guadeloupe, a French overseas department in the Caribbean, sits outside the Schengen area. Its visa rules come from the French order (arrêté) of 26 July 2011, whose Annex II lists the nationalities exempt from a short-stay visa. Pakistan is not on that list, so Pakistani citizens need a visa whose sticker covers Guadeloupe, for example one marked DFA (French departments of the Americas).
Guadeloupe is a butterfly-shaped French archipelago in the Lesser Antilles, made up of Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre plus Marie-Galante, Les Saintes and La Désirade. Visitors come for the rainforest and La Soufrière volcano, beaches near Sainte-Anne, rum distilleries and Caribbean cruises that call at Pointe-à-Pitre.
As a French overseas department, Guadeloupe uses French law but not the Schengen visa. Its entry list is set by an order of 26 July 2011, and Pakistan is not among the exempt nationalities, so Pakistani passport holders need an overseas short-stay visa that covers Guadeloupe.
If you want to visit more than one French Caribbean territory, ask for a sticker marked DFA. It is valid for Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana, and also for Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, within a combined limit of 90 days in any 180.
You file online with France-Visas and then attend the collection centre allocated by the French diplomatic post in Islamabad. The fee is EUR 60 for adults. If you already live in Europe on a French or full-Schengen residence card or long-stay visa, you can come for a short holiday without one.
Most travellers arrive at Pôle Caraïbes airport or by ship at Pointe-à-Pitre. Carry your passport, visa, bookings, funds and return ticket. Waiting times are not officially stated, so begin the paperwork in good time; you may file up to half a year before you sail or fly.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Guadeloupe?
Yes. Guadeloupe follows the order of 26 July 2011, and Pakistan is not among the visa-exempt nationalities in its Annex II. A short-stay visa valid for Guadeloupe is required.
Which sticker should I ask for if I also want to see Martinique?
Ask for a visa marked DFA, short for the French departments of the Americas. Under the order, a DFA visa covers Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana, and also Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
What does it cost?
EUR 60 for an adult, EUR 35 for a child aged 6 to under 12, and free for children under 6, according to the France-Visas fee table.
Is my Schengen visa enough for a Caribbean side trip?
No. The Ministry of the Interior says overseas visas and Schengen visas are separate, and each covers only its own territory. Apply for both if your trip includes Paris and Pointe-à-Pitre.
How many days can I spend in Guadeloupe?
Up to 90 days in any 180. If your visa also covers Martinique or other territories, the order caps the combined total at 90 days in 180.
Where do flights and ferries arrive?
Pôle Caraïbes airport at Les Abymes is the main permanent entry point, with Pointe-à-Pitre as the permanent seaport. Smaller ports such as Basse-Terre, Deshaies and Saint-François open as needed.
How do I apply from Lahore or Karachi?
Complete the France-Visas form, then book and attend the visa centre appointment set by the French Embassy in Pakistan. You can apply as early as six months before travel.
Can a visa be issued at the airport?
Very rarely. A border visa of 15 days at most exists for documented emergencies that left no time to apply ahead. Do not count on it.
Are Pakistani residents of Europe exempt?
They are, as long as their titre de séjour or long-stay visa is current and comes from France or a country applying the full Schengen rules. Their visits may total 90 days per 180.
What passport rules apply?
The passport must be valid for at least three months after your planned departure, contain two blank pages and be less than 10 years old.
Can I continue to Dominica or Saint Lucia?
Those islands are separate countries with their own entry rules. Check their official requirements and make sure your Guadeloupe visa allows the entries you need to return.
Can I fly on from Guadeloupe to Paris with this visa?
No. An overseas visa does not open the Schengen area. If you are already in Guadeloupe and need to travel to Europe, the Ministry of the Interior says you can ask the prefect of Guadeloupe for a Schengen short-stay visa.
Is there an official refusal rate?
No. There are no public figures on how many Pakistani applications for Guadeloupe are approved or turned down.
