Gabon's Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration (DGDI) runs an electronic travel authorisation, the e-Visa, for visitors arriving by air at Léon Mba International Airport in Libreville. Its list of countries exempted from visas under bilateral agreements covers ordinary passports only for Morocco, Mauritius and South Africa, and Pakistan does not appear on it, so Pakistani passport holders need the e-Visa before flying to Libreville.

Gabon lies on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, straddling the equator. Rainforest covers most of the country, and its national parks, among them Loango, Lopé and Ivindo, protect forest elephants, gorillas and surfing hippos, while Libreville offers beaches, markets and the Saint-Michel church.

Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Gabon. The Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration (DGDI) runs an online e-Visa, and its list of countries exempted under bilateral agreements does not include Pakistan. Only Moroccan, Mauritian and South African ordinary passports are exempt.

The e-Visa is valid only for arrival by air at Léon Mba International Airport in Libreville. You apply on evisa.dgdi.ga, upload a passport scan valid for at least six months and a recent 35 × 45 mm colour photo, and the DGDI processes the request in 72 hours.

A single-entry e-Visa for one to three months costs EUR 70 (XAF 45,000) and a six-month multiple-entry e-Visa costs EUR 185 (XAF 120,000), each plus a EUR 15 processing fee. The portal says you pay on arrival when the e-visa sticker is placed in your passport.

Do not board your flight until you hold the Travel Authorization Receipt, as travellers without it are sent back under Gabonese law. One-month and two-month visas can be extended at the DGDI in Libreville, while three-month and six-month visas cannot. Long stays or work need a different permit.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Gabon?

Yes. Pakistan is not on the DGDI list of countries exempted from visas, so Pakistani passport holders apply for Gabon's e-Visa online before flying to Libreville.

Where do I apply for the Gabon e-Visa?

On the official DGDI portal, evisa.dgdi.ga. You choose the e-Visa type, fill in the form, add your documents and submit the request.

How much does the Gabon e-Visa cost?

EUR 70 (or XAF 45,000) for one to three months with a single entry, or EUR 185 (or XAF 120,000) for six months with multiple entries. A EUR 15 file processing fee is added in both cases.

When do I pay?

The portal says payments are made on arrival, at the time the e-visa sticker is issued. Carry enough euros or CFA francs to cover the visa and the processing fee.

How long does processing take?

72 hours after the DGDI receives your request. The portal states that a request cannot be processed in a shorter period, so apply well before your flight.

Can I fly before my e-Visa is approved?

No. The DGDI warns that applicants must not travel before the arrival date given in the registration or without the Travel Authorization Receipt, and that those who do will be sent back under Law No. 5/86 of 18 June 1986.

Does the e-Visa work at land borders or seaports?

No. The portal says e-visas are currently valid only for travellers arriving by air at Léon Mba International Airport in Libreville.

What photo is required?

A colour photo taken within the last six months, 35 × 45 mm, with no overexposure or underexposure and no shadow on the face or background.

How long must my passport be valid?

At least six months. The portal also asks that every detail on the form matches the passport data exactly.

Can I extend a Gabon e-Visa?

Some can. At the DGDI visa department in Libreville a one-month visa may be extended by two months and a two-month visa by one month. Three-month and six-month visas are not extended.

Which purposes of visit can I choose?

The application lists tourism, business, family visits, friends, medical reasons, professional trips, trade fairs or events, official missions and other purposes.

Which nationalities are exempt from visas for Gabon?

On ordinary passports, the DGDI list names only Morocco, Mauritius and South Africa. Several other countries are listed for diplomatic or service passports only. Pakistan is not listed.

I plan to live or work in Gabon. Is the e-Visa enough?

No. The e-Visa is for visits. The DGDI asks anyone who wishes to settle in Gabon to check the terms on its main website, dgdi.ga.

How do I contact the e-Visa office?

The DGDI e-Visa cell is at BP 1019, Zone Industrielle d'Oloumi, Libreville. It lists the email evisa@dgdi.ga and the phone number +241 01 77 03 24.

Is there an official refusal rate?

No. Gabon does not publish visa refusal statistics for Pakistani applicants.
