Summary
- Visa type
- Short-stay visa valid for the Faroe Islands (applied for through Denmark)
- Stay limit
- Up to 90 days
- Entries
- As stated on the visa sticker
The Faroe Islands have their own entry rules within the Danish realm: a Schengen visa, including one issued by Denmark, is not valid there. Because Pakistan is a visa-requirement country under Danish rules, Pakistani nationals must obtain a visa whose sticker names the Faroe Islands. Applications are submitted to a Danish diplomatic mission or a representation acting for Denmark. In Pakistan, the Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad also deals with Faroe Islands visa applications.
The Faroe Islands are 18 steep, grass-roofed islands in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, known for sea cliffs, the Múlafossur waterfall at Gásadalur and puffin colonies on Mykines.
The islands belong to the Danish realm but are not covered by Schengen visas. Pakistan is on Denmark’s list of visa-requirement countries, so Pakistani nationals need a visa that names the Faroe Islands, even if they already hold a Danish Schengen visa.
The application uses the ordinary Danish procedure and is handled in Pakistan by the Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad. One form can request both a Faroe-valid visa and the Schengen visa most travellers need to fly in through Copenhagen or elsewhere in Schengen.
Expect the standard 90-euro fee plus the visa centre’s charge. Show your Faroese plans, enough money (about DKK 350 a day as a guide) and a passport under ten years old. Medical insurance is only required when Schengen is included.
Anyone already in Denmark without a Faroe-valid visa has to request an entry permit from the Danish Immigration Service. The Embassy also warns applicants to avoid agents and to book visa centre appointments early.
Checklist
Document requirements
- Online visa application under Denmark’s procedure, listing the Faroe Islands as a destination
- Proof of the planned Faroese stay, such as bookings, a route plan or an invitation
- Passport not older than 10 years, valid at least three months beyond the visa end date
- Proof you can pay for the stay and journey home (guideline about DKK 350 per day; about DKK 500 with hotel stays)
- Schengen-wide medical cover of 30,000 euros if the visa also includes Schengen; not needed for a Faroe-only visa
- 90-euro visa fee and the outsourcing company’s service fee
- Biometric data (fingerprints) given at submission
Pakistani citizens appear on Denmark’s visa-requirement list. They need a visa marked valid for the Faroe Islands, separate from any Schengen permission.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for the Faroe Islands?
Yes. As nationals of a visa-requirement country under Danish rules, Pakistanis need a visa that is specifically valid for the Faroe Islands.
Will a Danish Schengen visa get me in?
No. The Danish Immigration Service is clear that a Danish or Schengen visa does not give permission to enter the Faroe Islands.
Who handles applications in Pakistan?
The Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad, which covers visas for Denmark, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Is the procedure different from a Danish visa?
No. The process is identical; you simply add documentation showing your planned stay in the Faroe Islands.
Can I combine it with a Schengen visa?
Yes. One application form is enough even when you also request a Schengen visa, which you will probably need to travel via Denmark.
What is the visa fee?
Usually 90 euros for adults and 45 euros for children aged six to under twelve. The visa centre adds its own service fee.
Do I need medical insurance?
Only if the visa also covers the Schengen area. A visa valid just for the Faroe Islands does not require travel medical insurance.
What funds should I have?
The Danish mission decides, but the general benchmark is roughly DKK 350 for each day, or about DKK 500 if you book hotels.
How old can my passport be?
No more than ten years from issue, and it must remain valid at least three months after the visa ends.
What should the visa sticker show?
A note that it is valid for entry to the Faroe Islands. Without that wording, the visa does not cover the islands.
I am in Italy on a Schengen visa. Can I fly to the Faroes?
Not unless the visa is valid for the Faroe Islands. Holders of C or D visas from other Schengen states must apply for a Faroe-valid visa through a Danish mission.
What if I reach Denmark without a Faroe-valid visa?
You must ask the Danish Immigration Service for an entry permit via its contact form, giving your purpose, ticket and the reason you did not apply beforehand.
Can Schengen residence permit holders visit visa-free?
Yes, if the permit entitles you to enter and live in Denmark. Valid Danish residence permits and EU residence cards for Denmark also qualify.
Can a diplomatic passport help?
Holders of diplomatic, service, official or special passports who can enter Denmark visa-free may also enter the Faroe Islands without a visa.
Will my fingerprints be taken?
Normally yes, when you hand in the application at the visa centre.
Should I pay an agent to apply?
The Embassy urges applicants not to contact agents, who charge high prices and often supply false documents that lead to refusal.
Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?
No. Danish authorities do not publish Faroe Islands refusal data by nationality.
Can I stay longer than 90 days?
The visa covers short visits of up to 90 days. Longer stays need a different permit.
Do Nordic nationals need a visa?
No. Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish citizens may enter, live and work in the Faroe Islands freely.
