Pakistan is on the Falkland Islands Government list of nationalities that need a visa to visit, so Pakistani travellers obtain a Falklands visa from Customs & Immigration in Stanley before travel and then receive a visitor permit on arrival. The Falklands run their own immigration system, separate from the UK.

The Falkland Islands are a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, about 500 km off the coast of South America. Around 740 islands make up the archipelago, with Stanley as the capital, and visitors come for penguin colonies, albatross cliffs, wide open camp country and the history of the 1982 conflict.

Immigration is handled locally by the Falkland Islands Customs & Immigration Service, not by the UK Home Office. Most visitors simply receive a visitor permit stamp on arrival, but the government keeps its own list of nationalities that need a visa first, and Pakistan is named on that list.

Pakistani travellers therefore complete the Falklands visa application form, available from the Immigration Forms section of the Customs & Immigration website, and pay £80 per application under the 2026-27 charges. With the visa in hand, the visitor permit is issued at the border at no extra cost.

At arrival the officer checks a passport valid for the stay, a return or onward ticket, pre-booked accommodation, enough money for the visit and medical insurance covering air evacuation to at least USD 2 million. A permit on arrival lasts up to one month; longer stays of up to six months should be requested in advance.

Budget for the £40 embarkation tax payable when you fly out (rising to £41 in January 2027), and plan connections with care, since you will pass through other countries to reach the islands. Respect local feeling by saying Falkland Islands rather than Malvinas, and follow the Countryside Code around wildlife.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for the Falkland Islands?

Yes. Pakistan is named on the government list of nationalities that need a visa to visit. You get the visa before travel and a visitor permit on arrival.

Who issues the visa?

The Falkland Islands Customs & Immigration Service in Stanley. The visa application form is in the Immigration Forms section of its website, and the office can be reached on +500 27340.

How much does the visa cost?

£80 per application, with £6 for each child under 18 included in a parent's application, under the 2026-27 charges. The visitor permit is free.

Does a UK visa let me enter the Falklands?

Not on its own. The Falkland Islands Government keeps its own visa-required list and issues its own visas, and it does not list a UK visa as an exemption, so apply for a Falklands visa.

How long can I stay?

A visitor permit issued on arrival lasts up to one month. Applying in advance lets you ask for up to six months, and the total cannot exceed nine months in any twelve-month period.

What will the immigration officer ask for?

A return ticket or the money to buy one, a confirmed accommodation booking, proof of funds for the stay, and medical insurance covering air evacuation to at least USD 2 million.

Is there a departure tax?

Yes. Embarkation tax is paid at the airport when you leave: £40 until 31 December 2026 and £41 from 1 January 2027, in cash or by Visa or Mastercard debit card.

Can I work on a visitor permit?

No. Employment is prohibited, though certain business activities listed in the Immigration Ordinance, such as repair or inspection work, are allowed for limited periods. Ask Customs & Immigration first.

What currency is used?

The Falkland Islands pound, valued at par with sterling; both circulate freely. There is one bank and one cash machine in Stanley, so carry some cash.

Can I use Starlink during my visit?

Only with a VSAT licence costing £180 a year, issued by the government. Using a Starlink without one breaks local law, for residents and visitors alike.

Is there anything to know about local sensitivities?

Avoid the word Malvinas. Islanders regard it as an Argentine sovereignty term and find it highly offensive; in Spanish use Islas Falkland.

Do I need to plan my route carefully?

Yes. International flights connect through other countries, so check transit visa rules for every airport where you change planes, as well as holding the Falklands visa.
