Pakistan is one of the ‘special regime’ countries whose citizens must hold a visa before entering Ecuador, and it appears on the Cancillería’s list of nationalities that must present a visa. Tourists apply for the temporary visitor – tourist visa (90 days) only online, on the Ministry’s e-VISAS platform, which the Ministry describes as an electronic visa system that works without an appointment, 100% online. The total cost is US$80: US$50 when you apply and US$30 when the visa is granted. You need a passport valid for six months, a police certificate if you are over 18, proof of lawful means of support, and a return ticket.
Ecuador, on the Pacific coast of South America, handles visas through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility in Quito. Pakistani citizens cannot simply turn up at the border: Ecuador asks Pakistanis to hold a tourist visa before travelling. The good news is that the process is electronic, so you can apply from home without visiting a consulate.
Ecuador groups the nationalities that need a visa under a ‘special regime’, and Pakistan is on that list. The Cancillería’s published list of countries whose citizens must present a visa when entering Ecuador, prepared by its visas and naturalisation directorate, also names Pakistan. The visa for holidays is called the temporary visitor – tourist visa, and it covers 90 days from the date you enter.
Applications go through e-VISAS, which the Ministry presents as an electronic visa system with no appointment, open 24 hours a day. You register with your email address, choose a new procedure, pick the tourist visa and upload your passport details, photo and supporting documents. The US$50 application fee must be paid the same day, by card until 23:55 Ecuador time or by deposit at Banco del Pacífico during banking hours, or the application is deleted. A further US$30 is due when the visa is granted.
Prepare your documents before you start. You need a passport valid for six months, a 5 x 5 cm colour photo in JPG format under 1 MB, a return ticket and itinerary, and proof of lawful means of support under Ministerial Agreement No. 70 of 2024. Applicants over 18 must add a police certificate from Pakistan, or from any country they lived in during the past five years, translated and apostilled or legalised and less than 180 days old at entry.
Ecuador publishes no official approval rate and no fixed processing time for this visa, so apply well before your trip. The application fee is not refunded, which makes it worth double-checking that you chose the tourist category. Once in Ecuador, the law allows one extension of up to 90 days on request and payment, but work is not permitted. Questions can be raised through the online citizen services platform.
