Pakistan is on the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) list of nationalities that need a visa. The exception is Decree 691-07 of 18 December 2007: foreigners with permanent residence, or a valid multiple-entry visa, from the United States, the Schengen area, Canada or Great Britain may enter with just a valid passport and a Tourist Card, for tourism only. Everyone else applies for a tourist visa through the Dominican embassy or consulate nearest their residence, in person or by email. MIREX quotes 10 to 20 working days and charges US$100 for a single-entry visa or US$150 for multiple. Business trips always need a business visa.

For Pakistani travellers, the Dominican Republic’s entry rules split into two paths. Most Pakistanis need a Dominican tourist visa from an embassy or consulate before they fly. Those who already hold a strong Western visa or residence permit can often skip that step and enter with a Tourist Card instead, as long as the trip is purely for tourism.

Pakistan sits in the group of countries whose nationals require a visa, under the Dominican visa law of 1978. The shortcut comes from Decree 691-07 of December 2007, which lets foreigners with permanent residence or a valid multiple-entry visa from the United States, the Schengen area, Canada or Great Britain enter with a valid passport and a Tourist Card. The card is a tax that can be obtained at the airport on arrival.

If you do not qualify for that exception, contact the Dominican embassy or consulate nearest your residence, or the one designated for your area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs accepts applications in person or by email, and every visa is authorised centrally by the Ministry. A single-entry tourist visa (TS) costs US$100 and a multiple tourist visa (TM) US$150; both allow 60 days, with one or two entries respectively.

Prepare the visa form, one 2 x 2 inch photo on a white background, your original passport with at least six months of validity, and proof of income in the form of an employment letter and a bank certificate covering three months of transactions. Add copies of any current or expired visas, a residence card if you live outside Pakistan, and family certificates if relevant. Business visitors need a business visa in every case.

MIREX gives a response time of 10 to 20 working days and publishes no approval or refusal rate. Before any trip, visa or not, every passenger must complete the free e-Ticket for migration, customs and health, which produces a QR code and can be edited until a day before the flight. If you want to stay longer, the Dirección General de Migración can extend your visit once.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for the Dominican Republic?

Usually, yes. Pakistan appears in the list of countries whose nationals require a visa. The main exception is for Pakistanis who hold a valid multiple-entry visa or permanent residence from the US, the Schengen area, Canada or Great Britain.

Can I visit the Dominican Republic with a US, UK, Canada or Schengen visa?

Yes, for tourism. Under Decree 691-07 of December 2007, foreigners with permanent residence or a valid multiple-entry visa from those countries can enter with a valid passport and a Tourist Card. Make sure your visa is multiple-entry and still valid.

What is the Tourist Card?

It is a tax charged to visitors who enter without a visa under the tourist-card rules. The Dominican consulate in the Netherlands says it can be obtained at the airport on arrival, and some tour operators include it in their packages.

Can I use the Tourist Card for a business trip?

No. The Tourist Card is for tourism only. Anyone visiting for business must apply for a single or multiple business visa at a Dominican consulate abroad, even if they could enter as a tourist without a visa.

How much is the Dominican tourist visa?

US$100 for a single-entry tourist visa (TS) and US$150 for a multiple tourist visa (TM), according to MIREX’s consular fee list.

How long can I stay on a Dominican tourist visa?

Both tourist visas cover 60 days; TS allows one entry and TM allows two. If you need more time once in the country, you can ask the Dirección General de Migración for an extension, which can be granted once.

Where do I apply from Pakistan?

MIREX says to contact the Dominican embassy or consulate nearest your residence or designated as your jurisdiction. Applications are made in person or by email, and the Ministry authorises every visa.

How long does the Dominican visa take?

MIREX lists a response time of 10 to 20 working days, so leave enough time before your flight.

What financial documents do I need?

An employment letter and a bank certificate showing your account movements over the last three months, along with any current or expired visas you hold.

Do I need to fill in a form before flying?

Yes. Every passenger entering or leaving must complete the e-Ticket on eticket.migracion.gob.do for migration, customs and health. It is free, produces a QR code, and can be edited until one day before the flight date.
