Summary

eVisa
Visa type
Burkina Faso short-stay visa (online pre-visa or embassy)
Stay limit
Up to 90 days
Entries
Single or multiple

Burkina Faso requires every foreign visitor to hold an entry visa, a visa agreement or a residence permit unless an exemption applies, and the official Visa Burkina portal run by the Ministry of Security accepts applications online or through a Burkinabè embassy. Pakistan is not named on the portal; Pakistani travellers apply for a short-stay visa before departure and receive an approval document (pre-visa) to show on arrival. A short-stay visa covers tourism, business or family visits for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entries.

Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in the heart of West Africa, is known for the FESPACO film festival in Ouagadougou, the SIAO crafts fair, the painted houses of Tiébélé and the rock formations of Sindou. Pakistani passport holders must obtain a visa before arriving.

The rule on the official Visa Burkina portal, run by the National Police under the Ministry of Security, is simple: any foreigner needs a visa, a visa agreement or a residence permit unless an exemption applies. Pakistan has no such exemption, so the short-stay visa is the route for tourism, business and family trips.

You can file online or through a Burkinabè embassy. Either way, a response arrives roughly 72 hours after submission, and approval comes as a pre-visa document you print or keep on your phone. Officers authenticate it at the border, stamp your passport and check it again when you leave.

A tourist visa costs XOF 66,000 whether single or multiple entry, and a business visa XOF 99,000 or 132,500. You will need a passport photo, proof of purpose, a medical certificate, health insurance and, for tourism, a hotel booking of three nights or more. Paying in cash avoids card processing charges.

Stays are limited to 90 days in total, and the visa does not allow paid work. Arrival checks also include a vaccination record, a return ticket or repatriation bond and a signed arrival card, so keep those papers ready alongside the pre-visa.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Passport valid for the trip
  • Completed, dated and signed visa application form
  • One recent colour photo on a white background, 3.5 x 4.5 cm
  • Proof of the purpose of the visit

  • Health insurance certificate covering the whole stay
  • Receipt for the stamp duty (visa fee) payment
  • Tourist visa: hotel booking in Burkina Faso for at least three nights (or a festival invitation)

The official portal does not publish a nationality list; Pakistani passport holders apply as visa-required visitors. Business, conference and family-visit visas need extra papers matching the purpose.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Burkina Faso?

Yes. Every foreigner needs an entry visa, a visa agreement or a residence permit unless exempt, and Pakistan has no exemption on the official portal. Apply online or at a Burkinabè embassy before you travel.

How much is the tourist visa?

XOF 66,000 (CFA francs), the same for single and multiple entry. A business visa is XOF 99,000 for one entry or XOF 132,500 for several.

Is there a faster option?

Yes. The express visa costs XOF 247,500 and is meant for people who need their file handled urgently.

How long can I stay on a short-stay visa?

Up to 90 days. A multiple-entry visa lets you make several trips, but the total time may not go beyond 90 days.

What do I receive after approval?

A pre-visa, sent as a PDF or printout. It is an official document that lets you travel; keep it with you until you leave the country, as officers check it again on exit.

How long does the decision take?

The portal says around 72 hours after you submit the application.

What happens at the airport or land border?

Show your pre-visa and passport. The migration officer checks the document and stamps your passport on entry and on exit.

Which papers do I need?

A valid passport, the signed form, a 3.5 x 4.5 cm colour photo on white, proof of purpose, a medical certificate, health insurance for the stay and the fee receipt. Tourists add a booking of at least three nights in a Burkinabè hotel.

Do I need a transit visa?

If you are crossing Burkina Faso to reach another country, a transit visa for 1 to 5 days costs XOF 38,000. You need a ticket to your next destination, or an international driving licence and vehicle papers if driving.

How do I pay?

Cash paid to the treasurer against a receipt costs only the visa fee. Paying by card or electronic wallet adds a charge from the payment operator.

Can I work on a short-stay visa?

No. Employment needs prior authorisation from the minister responsible for labour.

What else is checked on arrival?

A health booklet that meets international health rules, a return ticket or repatriation bond, and an arrival information card you fill in and sign.

Who runs the visa portal?

The Division de la migration of the National Police, under the Ministry of Security, based on Avenue de l'Indépendance in Ouagadougou.

Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?

No. Burkina Faso does not publish such figures.
