Pakistan is on the Botswana Department of Immigration and Citizenship list of Commonwealth countries that are required to obtain a visa, and Botswana Tourism names Pakistan as one of the Commonwealth exceptions to visa-free entry. Pakistani tourists apply online through the Botswana e-Visa portal, or with Form 1 at an immigration office, Botswana embassy or consulate. Processing takes 7 to 14 working days. If the visa is approved but not yet printed, you can travel with the approval letter and have the visa printed at the port of entry.
Botswana is one of Africa’s great safari countries, with the Okavango Delta, the elephant herds of Chobe and the salt pans of Makgadikgadi. Pakistani passport holders need a visa, granted by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship before arrival.
The department publishes separate lists of countries that need a visa and those that do not, including a short list of Commonwealth countries still required to obtain one. Pakistan is on that list with Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Cameroon, and Botswana Tourism repeats the same exceptions.
Tourists can apply online through the Botswana e-Visa portal, saving all supporting documents as a single PDF, or fill in Form 1 at an immigration office, Botswana embassy or consulate. The file includes a certified passport copy, two photos, a covering letter, flight and hotel bookings, a trip itinerary and proof you will leave.
The government quotes seven to fourteen working days. Online applicants download the decision from the portal; others collect it from the office that received the application. An approved visa that has not been printed can still be used for travel, because the approval letter is accepted and the visa is printed on arrival.
Pakistanis visiting friends or relatives use the visitor’s visa, which adds a sworn affidavit from the host and a certified copy of the host’s ID or permit. Immigration offices open on weekdays from 7:30 to 16:30 with a lunch break, and a toll-free line is available.

Quick answers
FAQ
Do Pakistanis need a visa for Botswana?
Yes. Pakistan is on Botswana’s official list of Commonwealth countries required to obtain a visa, so you must apply before travelling.
Aren’t Commonwealth citizens visa-free in Botswana?
Most are, but Botswana Tourism lists exceptions: Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka still need a visa.
How do I apply?
Online through the Botswana e-Visa portal, or in person by filling in Form 1 at any immigration office, Botswana embassy or consulate.
How long does it take?
Seven to fourteen working days after you apply, according to the Government of Botswana.
What documents does a tourist need?
A certified copy of passport pages 1 and 2 with six months of validity, two colour photos, a covering letter, flight and accommodation bookings, a trip itinerary and evidence that you will leave Botswana.
What if I am visiting family or friends?
Apply for the visitor’s visa. Your host provides a sworn statement made in person, a certified copy of their national ID, residence and work permit or exemption certificate, and you add relationship certificates where relevant.
Can I travel before the visa is printed?
Yes. If the visa is approved but not printed, the approval letter serves as proof of the visa and it is printed at the airport or port of entry.
How should I upload documents online?
Save all required documents together as one PDF file for the online application.
How much does the visa cost?
The government pages do not state the fee. Check it on the e-Visa portal or with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship before applying.
Can I do business or work on a visitor’s visa?
No. The government says the visitor’s visa stays valid only if you do not work for, provide services to or sell goods to businesses or the public in Botswana.
I live in the Gulf. Is anything extra needed?
If your country of residence requires a re-entry permit, include it. For a visitor’s visa, the government also asks for your return visa or residence permit from your country of residence.
Where can I submit a paper application?
At all regional and district immigration offices in Botswana and at Botswana missions abroad. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship can be reached on +267 361 1327 or toll free on 0800 600 777.
