Summary

eVisa
Visa type
e-Visa (online on evisa.bj before travel)
Stay limit
30 or 90 days, as selected
Entries
Single or multiple (30 days); multiple (90 days)

Benin issues visitor visas online through its official e-Visa platform, evisa.bj. The platform’s FAQ says any foreigner wishing to visit can apply there, while Africans may visit Benin without a visa for 90 days. Pakistan is outside that African exemption, so Pakistani passport holders should obtain an e-Visa for 30 or 90 days before travel. Benin’s reciprocal exemption agreements are listed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Benin, on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea, is known for the stilt village of Ganvié on Lake Nokoué, the royal palaces of Abomey, the Route des Esclaves at Ouidah and the wildlife of Pendjari National Park. Pakistani travellers need a visa.

Visitor visas are issued online through the government platform evisa.bj. Its FAQ says any foreigner can apply there, and that only Africans may visit without a visa for up to 90 days, which leaves Pakistani passport holders on the e-Visa route.

Three options are offered: 30 days single entry for EUR 50, 30 days multiple entry for EUR 75 and 90 days multiple entry for EUR 100 when you apply yourself. Filing through an embassy raises each price by EUR 10, and no payment is refunded.

The process starts with your email, passport number and expiry date, followed by a confirmation link and a four-part form covering personal, visa, trip and passport details. Payment works with 3D Secure Visa or Mastercard and several mobile money services.

Processing takes from one hour to 96 hours, and you should apply at least 7 days before entry but not more than 90 days ahead. An issued e-Visa cannot be changed, so review every field, and carry your yellow fever card for checks on arrival.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Benin?

Yes. Only Africans are exempt for 90 days under the official FAQ, so Pakistani passport holders need an e-Visa from evisa.bj.

How much is the Benin e-Visa?

Applying yourself costs EUR 50 for a 30-day single-entry visa, EUR 75 for 30-day multiple entry and EUR 100 for 90-day multiple entry.

Is it cheaper to apply myself or through an embassy?

Applying yourself is cheaper. Applications made at an embassy cost EUR 60, EUR 85 and EUR 110 for the same three options.

Which visa length should I pick?

Choose by the length of your stay: 30 days or 90 days. The validity you select is the validity you receive.

When does the e-Visa start?

On the date of entry you enter in the trip section of the form, so set it carefully.

How early can I apply?

The FAQ recommends at least 7 days before entry and does not allow applications more than 90 days ahead.

How long does processing take?

Between one hour and 96 hours, according to the platform.

How do I start the application?

Click the yellow Apply button, enter your email twice, your passport number and its expiry date, then confirm through the link sent to your inbox.

What does the form ask for?

Four sections: personal data, e-Visa data, trip data and passport data. Required fields carry an asterisk.

How can I pay?

By 3D Secure Visa or Mastercard, or by mobile money services such as MTN and Moov listed on the platform.

Can I change my e-Visa after it is issued?

No. Issuance is automated, so the details cannot be amended. Check the form before paying.

Can I get a refund?

No. The FAQ states payments are not refundable.

What if my e-Visa expires while I am in Benin?

Contact the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration to extend it.

Is yellow fever vaccination checked?

Yes. The health ministry has a notice on vaccination card checks at Benin’s entry points, so carry your card.

Does Benin have visa-exemption agreements with other countries?

Yes. The platform says Benin has reciprocal exemption agreements and points to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the full list. The e-Visa remains the standard route for non-African visitors such as Pakistanis.

Do children need their own e-Visa?

Each application is opened with one passport number, so a child travelling on their own passport needs an application of their own.

What should I carry when I land at Cotonou?

Your passport, the approved e-Visa, your return or onward ticket, your accommodation details and your yellow fever vaccination card.

Is there an older Covid-19 rule still in force?

No. The government lifted the Covid-19 preventive and restrictive measures in March 2022, as noted on the platform.

Is there an official refusal rate for Pakistanis?

No. Benin does not publish visa refusal figures by nationality.
