Ascension Island entry e-visa (Visitor)
Stay limit
Single stay up to 3 months (max 3 months in any 12)
Entries
Single stay; e-visa ends if you leave before expiry

The Ascension Island Government states that all nationalities, including British citizens, need an entry e-visa unless they fall into a narrow exemption list (mainly armed forces, government officials and contractors on duty). Pakistan is not on the list of nationalities to whom e-visas are currently not issued, so Pakistani visitors apply online in advance; there is no visa on arrival. Because Pakistanis need a visa for the UK, Ascension may ask them for a valid multi-entry UK visa covering the outward and return journeys, unless they travel via the Falkland Islands.

Ascension Island rises from the mid-Atlantic between Africa and Brazil, a British Overseas Territory of volcanic cinder cones, the cloud forest of Green Mountain, nesting green turtles on Long Beach and one of the largest marine protected areas in the ocean. Access is limited to a few flights and ships, and every visitor needs permission to land.

The Ascension Island Government applies that rule to all nationalities, even British citizens. The only exemptions cover people such as armed forces personnel, officials and contractors on duty. A Pakistani passport holder going as a tourist, a family visitor or a birdwatcher must have an e-visa before travel, with no visa on arrival.

Pakistanis can apply: the government's list of thirteen nationalities currently refused e-visas does not include Pakistan. There is one extra hurdle, though. Because Pakistan is a UK visa national, officials can ask for a multi-entry UK visa covering both legs of the trip, unless your route runs via the Falkland Islands.

Applications go through the government's own portal, and no agents are allowed. A visitor e-visa costs £40 if filed at least 14 days ahead and £60 under Fast Track, and it allows a single stay of up to three months. Expect a decision within about three weeks in most cases, though some take up to six.

Insurance matters more here than almost anywhere. The government advises £1 million of cover with at least £500,000 for air evacuation, and you must show the policy again on arrival. St Helena, Ascension's neighbour in the same territory, has a completely separate e-visa.

Checklist

Document requirements

  • Pakistani passport with at least six months validity on entry and enough to cover the stay
  • Online e-visa application through the Ascension Island Government portal
  • Visitor fee (£40 standard; £60 Fast Track)
  • Valid multi-entry UK visa covering both journeys, if requested (not needed when travelling via the Falkland Islands)
  • Medical insurance with medical evacuation by air of at least £500,000 (£1 million overall advised): insurer, policy number and dates
  • Proof of insurance to show again on arrival
  • Travel and accommodation plans for the visit

Ascension does not issue e-visas to nationals of Belarus, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Iran, Libya, Macau, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Taiwan, Ukraine or Vietnam; Pakistan is not on that list. The UK-visa evidence rule applies to nationals who need a visa for the UK, which includes Pakistan.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Ascension Island?

Yes. Every nationality, British citizens included, needs an entry e-visa unless specifically exempted, and ordinary Pakistani visitors are not exempt.

Can Pakistanis actually get an Ascension e-visa?

Yes. The government lists thirteen nationalities it currently does not issue e-visas to, and Pakistan is not one of them.

Will I need a UK visa as well?

You may. Nationals who need a visa for the UK, as Pakistanis do, can be asked for a multi-entry UK visa valid for the outward and return journeys. This does not apply if your route goes via the Falkland Islands.

How much is a visitor e-visa?

£40 at the standard rate, £60 under Fast Track for arrivals within 14 days, and £10 for children under 12. Fees are not refunded.

How long can I stay as a visitor?

A single stay of up to three months, and no more than three months in total in any 12-month period, except in exceptional circumstances.

What if my flight is delayed?

The holder may arrive up to 72 hours after the visa start or leave up to 72 hours after the stated departure date, if the change is due to unforeseen delays and insurance is still valid.

How much insurance do I need?

Cover of £1 million is advised, with at least £500,000 specifically for medical evacuation by air. Credit cards and insurance brochures are not accepted as proof.

How early should I apply?

At least 14 days before arrival. The government aims to decide nine in ten applications within 21 days, and late applications without good reason may be refused.

Is there a transit option?

Yes. A Transit e-visa allows up to seven days per journey while you wait for the next flight or ship; a Double Transit covers a return stopover within three months.

Can I use an agent?

No. The government says e-visas may only be bought from it directly through the official portal and that any third-party firm claiming to sell them should be treated as fraudulent.

Is St Helena included?

No. St Helena runs its own e-visa system, so plan two separate applications if your trip covers both islands.

Is there an official refusal rate?

No. No refusal figures are published.
