Türkiye is a favourite with Pakistani travellers for Istanbul's history, Cappadocia and family visits, and the visa question has a clear official answer. Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says holders of ordinary green Pakistani passports need a visa, while official passport holders are exempt for short visits. For most visitors the real question is which of the official routes fits.

The first route is the online e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr, but it is conditional. You qualify only if you already hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the United States, the United Kingdom or Ireland. The e-Visa covers tourism and commerce only. The Turkish Embassy in Islamabad stresses a few points: the supporting visa must be valid on the day you enter, another country's e-Visa does not count, and the portal itself does not check your supporting document. Airlines and Turkish immigration do, and an airline can refuse to board you. Carry the original visa or permit, including the old passport it sits in.

Everyone else applies for a sticker visa. You start in the Pre-Application System for Turkish Sticker Visa at visa.gov.tr, which redirects you to the e-Visa if you turn out to be eligible. The embassy has announced that applications are received only through Anatolia Travel Services offices, so book with that provider and check which office serves your city. Türkiye has an embassy in Islamabad and consulates general in Karachi and Lahore.

For a sticker visa, prepare a passport with comfortable validity beyond your planned stay, medical insurance covering your time in Türkiye, proof of funds or regular income, your travel plan and accommodation, and written approval from both parents for minors. If a person or company is hosting you, the invitation letter should give the host's Turkish ID number and identity details, their address and phone number, the names of those invited, the length and purpose of the stay, your relationship, and any promise to cover your costs. A company host adds its tax registration certificate.

Mistakes to avoid: relying on a supporting visa that expires before your entry date, applying through a lookalike website that resells the official e-Visa at a mark-up, using the e-Visa for work or study, and booking non-refundable travel before a sticker visa is issued. Fees are not refunded after a refusal, and the MFA advises applying well ahead. E-Visa questions go through the portal's own enquiry form, not to an embassy.

Can Pakistanis get a Turkish e-Visa? Only if you hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit. Without one, you need a sticker visa through Türkiye's missions in Pakistan.
