This UK visit visa documents checklist Pakistan guide lists the documents Pakistani passport holders prepare for a UK Standard Visitor visa, the visa used for tourism, family visits, permitted business activities and short courses. Everything here comes from two official UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) sources: the gov.uk Standard Visitor pages and the Home Office Visiting the UK: guide to supporting documents (updated 8 October 2026). For the full country overview, see our UK visa guide for Pakistan and the United Kingdom hub.

What UKVI is actually checking

The Home Office guide says you need to show you are a genuine visitor, with evidence that:

  • you are coming to do a permitted activity (tourism, visiting family, permitted business, short study and similar)
  • you will leave the UK at the end of your visit
  • you can support yourself and any dependants for the whole trip
  • you can pay for your return or onward journey and other costs of the visit

The gov.uk eligibility page adds that you must not plan to live in the UK for long periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home. Every document below supports one of these points. Pakistani nationals need a visa before travel; you can confirm this with gov.uk's "Check if you need a UK visa" tool. Our visa-free countries for Pakistan list covers places where you do not.

General information from official UK government sources only. Not legal advice. We do not lodge visas. The Home Office says its list is "not exhaustive" and that submitting any document "does not guarantee" a successful application. A decision maker may ask you for more.

1. Mandatory documents and information

  • Valid passport that is valid for the whole of your stay
  • Online application completed on gov.uk, with the fee paid
  • Appointment booking at a visa application centre (booked as part of the online application)
  • Your planned travel dates and where you will stay
  • How much you think the trip will cost
  • Your current home address and how long you have lived there
  • Your parents' names and dates of birth (if known)
  • Your yearly income (if you have an income)
  • Details of any criminal, civil or immigration offences

Depending on your circumstances, gov.uk says you may also need: your travel history for the past 10 years, your employer's address and phone number, your partner's name, date of birth and passport number, the name and address of anyone paying for your trip, the name, address and passport number of family members in the UK, and a tuberculosis (TB) test certificate if you are visiting for more than 6 months.

The Home Office also suggests copies of previous passports showing travel to other countries.

2. Financial evidence: what gov.uk says (and does not say)

gov.uk does not publish a minimum bank balance for the Standard Visitor visa. Treat any fixed "required balance" you see elsewhere with caution. The official test is that you have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs of your visit for yourself and any dependants, and that you can access those funds.

The Home Office lists these as examples:

  • Bank statements that detail the origin of the funds held
  • Building society books that detail the origin of the funds
  • Proof of earnings, such as an employer letter confirming your start date, salary, role and company contact details

Your online form also asks how much you earn each year and how much you expect the trip to cost, so your statements should make sense next to those figures. The guide warns that bank statements or letters issued more than 1 year before the application date are less useful, as are credit card statements.

3. Employment, business and student proofs

The Home Office suggests documents that show your circumstances in your home country:

  • Employed: a letter from your employer on company headed paper detailing your role, salary and length of employment.
  • Self-employed / business owner: business registration documents or recent invoices that confirm ongoing self-employment.
  • Student: a letter from your education provider, on headed paper, confirming your enrolment and leave of absence.
  • Business visitor: if you are attending a conference or business event, a letter of invitation from the event organiser. If you are visiting UK colleagues of your overseas employer, a letter from your employer confirming this. Business activities are allowed only if a UK-based organisation or client is not paying you for them (gov.uk business rules).
  • Short course (up to 6 months): an acceptance letter from your course provider confirming the course details.

5. Children under 18

  • Birth certificate or adoption papers showing the relationship to at least 1 parent or guardian
  • Copy of the photo page of at least 1 parent's or guardian's passport (with signature and passport number) if they are not also applying
  • If not travelling with a parent or guardian: a signed consent letter covering who is travelling with the child (with their passport number if an adult), who will look after them in the UK, and how they will travel. The guide says the application may be refused without it.

6. Translations

Any document not in English or Welsh (for example an Urdu-language document) must come with a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify. Each translation must include:

  • the translator's confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original
  • the date of translation
  • the translator's full name and signature
  • the translator's contact details

The Home Office also says digital images should be taken of original documents, not copies, where possible. Families or groups applying together do not need to provide multiple copies of the same document.

7. Biometrics appointment in Pakistan

After applying online, you book an appointment at a visa application centre. UK visa centres in Pakistan are run by TLScontact for UKVI. Check the current centres and services on the official TLScontact UK booking site through the link in your application. At the appointment, gov.uk says you will:

  • prove your identity with your passport
  • have your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) taken
  • provide the documents that show you are eligible

You will get your passport back the same day. The centre may keep some other documents while your application is processed. If you are approved, you get an eVisa (a digital record of your status), which you access through a UKVI account.

8. Fee and processing time (verified 30 October 2026)

According to gov.uk:

VisaFeeMax stay
Standard Visitor visa£1356 months
Standard Visitor (medical reasons)£23411 months
Standard Visitor (academics)£23412 months
2-year long-term Standard Visitor£5066 months per visit
5-year long-term Standard Visitor£9036 months per visit
10-year long-term Standard Visitor£1,1286 months per visit
  • The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.
  • You will usually get a decision within 3 weeks of your appointment.
  • Gov.uk describes a priority service (£500 on top of the fee, usually 5 working days for most visa applications) if you are eligible. Check whether it is offered for your application on the gov.uk faster decision page.
  • Fees are not refunded if you are refused or given a shorter long-term visa than you requested.

9. Documents gov.uk says are less useful, and common reasons for refusal

The Home Office lists these as less useful evidence: bank statements or letters more than 1 year old, credit card statements, driving licence, educational certificates not required for your visa, evidence of car ownership, personal photographs, notarial certificates, business cards, hotel bookings, flight bookings (unless transiting), photocopies of bank cards, leisure certificates such as sports trophies, travel insurance, and a sponsor's utility or council tax bills.

UKVI does not publish a Pakistan-specific list of refusal reasons on these pages. The official guidance points to these risks:

  • not showing you are a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of your visit
  • not showing enough accessible funds for the trip
  • planning activities that are not permitted, such as work or long stays through frequent visits
  • for an unaccompanied child, not providing parental consent (the guide says the application "may be refused")

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for the UK?

Yes. Pakistani passport holders need a Standard Visitor visa before travelling to the UK for tourism, family visits or permitted business. You apply online on gov.uk and attend a biometrics appointment at a visa application centre.

Is there a minimum bank balance for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?

No figure is published. gov.uk does not set a minimum balance. You must show you have enough accessible funds to cover all reasonable costs of your visit, using documents such as bank statements that show where the funds came from.

Do I need a hotel or flight booking for my UK visa application?

Not as evidence. The Home Office lists hotel bookings and flight bookings (unless transiting) as less useful documents. You still enter your travel dates and where you will stay in the online form.

Do my Urdu documents need to be translated?

Yes. Any document not in English or Welsh needs a full, independently verifiable translation that includes the translator's confirmation of accuracy, the date, their full name and signature, and their contact details.

What should a UK sponsor provide?

Evidence of what support they are providing and how, that they have enough funds for themselves and their dependants, your relationship to them, and their legal status in the UK if applicable.

How much is the UK visit visa fee and how long does it take?

As of 30 October 2026, gov.uk lists £135 for a 6-month Standard Visitor visa. A decision usually comes within 3 weeks of your appointment. Always confirm on gov.uk before you pay. See our UK visit visa processing time guide.

Is travel insurance required for a UK visit visa?

It is not on the official checklist. The Home Office lists travel insurance as a less useful document for visit applications.
