Pakistani passport holders need a visa for any short visit to Colombia, and also for a direct airport transit through it. Pakistan is not on Colombia’s lists of visa-exempt nationalities, and holding a US or Schengen visa does not change that, because that conditional exemption applies only to a short list of other countries. Tourists apply online for a Visitor (V) visa in the tourism category through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Cancillería). The visa is sent by email if approved. It costs US$56 for the study plus US$82 on approval.

Colombia offers a lot of variety for one trip: colonial Cartagena on the Caribbean coast, the coffee farms of the Eje Cafetero, mountain-ringed Medellín and the capital, Bogotá, high in the Andes. Pakistani passport holders need a visa to visit. There is no visa on arrival, and unlike some Asian nationalities, Pakistanis cannot use a US or Schengen visa to skip the requirement. The good news is that the whole process happens online.

Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, known as Cancillería, keeps three lists of nationalities that can visit without a visa. Pakistan is on none of them. List C covers countries such as India and China whose citizens get in with a valid US or Schengen visa, and Pakistan is not included there either. The ministry’s May 2026 country table confirms that Colombia requires a visa from Pakistani nationals for short visits, and also for a direct airport transit.

Tourists apply for the Visitor (V) visa in the tourism category through the online form on the Cancillería website, choosing the Colombian consular office nearest to where they live. Once the application is created you get a payment reference and have 10 days to pay the US$56 study fee, which is never refunded. If the visa is approved, you pay a further US$82 within 10 days, and the visa arrives by email. You normally do not need to visit an office unless the visa authority asks.

The tourism category has demanding paperwork. You need a signed letter describing your trip, bank statements for six months showing monthly income of at least ten Colombian minimum salaries, health insurance covering Colombia, and a flight reservation in and out of the country. If someone in Colombia is inviting you, they must send a hand-signed letter with a fingerprint, their contact details and a promise to cover your costs. Documents from abroad must be apostilled or legalised and translated into Spanish where needed, and they must be less than three months old.

Colombia does not publish an official approval or refusal rate for Pakistani applicants. The visa authority has up to 30 calendar days to decide, and may ask for more documents with a 10-day deadline to reply. Decisions cannot be appealed, and after a refusal you must wait six months before applying again, so make your first file complete. If approved, the visa is valid for up to a year and allows stays of 90 days at a time, up to 180 days a year. Carry your return ticket, because immigration checks it on arrival.

Quick answers

FAQ

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Colombia?

Yes. Pakistan is not on Colombia’s Lists A, B or C of nationalities exempt from a visa for short stays, so Pakistani passport holders must get a Visitor (V) visa before travelling, even for tourism.

Can I enter Colombia with a US or Schengen visa?

Not as a Pakistani national. Colombia lets holders of US or Schengen visas skip its visa only if they are nationals of the countries on List C, such as India and China. Pakistan is not on that list, and the Ministry’s May 2026 country table shows no exemption for Pakistan.

Are there any other exemptions for Pakistanis?

A few special cases apply regardless of nationality. Permanent residents of Pacific Alliance member states, and non-community permanent residents of Andean Community countries, are exempt for short stays. If you hold permanent residence in one of those countries, check the Ministry’s exemption page before applying.

How do I apply for a Colombian tourist visa?

Fill in the online form on the Cancillería portal, choose the Colombian consular office nearest to where you live, and upload your documents as PDFs and your photo as a JPG. You then get a payment reference and must pay the study fee within 10 calendar days. You only need to appear in person if the visa authority asks you to.

How much does the Colombian visa cost for Pakistanis?

For applications made outside Europe and Cuba, including from Pakistan, the study fee is US$56 and is not refundable. If the visa is approved, you pay a further US$82 within 10 calendar days, making US$138 in total.

How much money do I need to show?

Bank statements for the six months before you apply, showing monthly income of at least ten Colombian legal minimum monthly salaries. The figure can be met by you, by the person inviting you, or by both together.

How long can I stay on a Colombian tourist visa?

The visa is valid for up to one year. Each stay is up to 90 days and can be extended by another 90, but you cannot spend more than 180 days in Colombia in any 365-day period counted from the date the visa was issued. The visa does not allow work.

How long does it take to get a decision?

Up to 30 calendar days after your file is complete and the study fee is paid, and sometimes longer if checks with other agencies are needed. Answer any request for more documents within 10 days through the SITAC platform, or the application may be rejected.

Do I need a visa just to change planes in Colombia?

Yes. Pakistan is on the list of nationalities that need a V visa for direct airport transit. It allows up to 24 hours in the international transit area of one airport, is valid for up to 30 days for multiple transits, and costs US$56 for the study plus US$67 for the visa.

What happens if my visa is refused?

Visa decisions are discretionary and cannot be appealed. After a refusal, Cancillería says you cannot register a new application for six months. If the file is only rejected as incomplete (inadmitted), you can submit a fresh application.

Is there a form to fill in before I fly?

Migración Colombia runs Check-Mig, a free online pre-registration you can complete from 72 hours up to one hour before travel. Its service page describes it as optional, but it speeds up your interview at the airport.
